@Tri In summary, why should I choose a PC over a console? What can it possibly offer? PCs are awesome machines for gaming, work, and entertainment alike for many reasons. This includes, but is not limited to, the following reasons: PC gaming as a whole is much cheaper than console gaming [1] [2] Console-equivalent PC hardware is cheaper (same performance for less money, more performance for the same money, or much more performance for a bit more money). [1] PCs have the freedom to upgrade whenever YOU decide to, not when Sony or Microsoft decide to. PCs easily work with TVs and monitors, and even multiple of each. PCs can play nearly every old console game ever made, through emulators, at higher graphical details, with whatever controller you want to use... for free. [1] PCs can use nearly every console controller ever made, modern ones (PS3/PS4/X360/XO) work without even needing a USB adapter. [1] PC games offer a clearer image thanks to native resolution, console games don't allow resolution adjustments to properly fit the display like PC games do. Gaming services and "social services" on the PC are completely free, even with online play (Steam, Galaxy, Desura, Mumble, etc) Gaming services on the PC offer more functionality than what you pay for on a console PCs have better better multiplayer support (LAN, 16x local multiplayer on the same machine with softXpand) Using a modern budget GPU yields around 60 frames per second during gameplay with recent game releases. Consoles can barely reach 30FPS most of the time. Not only can PC's be used for education, entertainment, gaming, and content creation... they're the best at all of these things. Faster and cheaper than a PS4 or XBox One, even for $400 More exclusives than all the current-gen consoles combined More highly-rated exclusives Free game modifications and enhancements More games, much larger library More exclusive games Healthy independent developer scene Lots of free games Free abandonware titles Can emulate many console games using freely available emulators Increasingly cheaper hardware for the price as new GPUs are released Big Picture mode for couch gaming Easier to repair and highly modular Backward and forward hardware compatibility of ~2 years No punishments for repairing Can be upgraded if desired Easier to upgrade Better price-performance than consoles Higher framerates (smoother) Higher resolution (native to your display, amazingly sharp). Consoles struggle, even at 700-900p! Higher graphical details (lighting, textures, foliage, particles, shading, weather) You're probably going to own some sort of PC anyways, why not pay a bit more on top to make it a gaming machine? That alone makes it cheaper than a console. For sources n stuff: reddit(dot)com/r/pcmasterrace/wiki/guide

ok @trituse, i'll argue with you graphics on PC > you can use any controller on PC games run faster on PC games are CHEAPER on PC you can use the DRM of your choice on PC there are TONS of games available on PC, far more exclusives than any console, or every console combined

how is PC gaming cheaper when you have to pay like 4x more than a console for a good gaming computer?? plus consoles are much more durable and wont break as easy

@franc yup. i calculated over 300$ in savings on my Steam the other day, and that's not even counting free games I've been gifted from the awesome community. @trit yeah, PC's last just as long if you take proper care. and how is it expensive?

@trituse Modern gaming CPU Athlon X4 or Intel i3 $80 Modern gaming GPU that destroys the PS4 & XBO AMD R9 270 or NVidia GeForce 750 $100 Motherboard High-rated board that fits either CPU $60 Memory 4GB of DDR3, probably 1333 or 1600 $30 Storage Hard drive and/or fast SSD, 1TB(HDD) or 128GB(SSD) $60 Case Whatever appeals to you and fits these parts (likely MicroATX) $50 Power Supply Whatever powers the build, ~400W $30 Total Combination of all estimated prices ~$400 there is 400 dollar pc that will perform better than a PS4 or XBONE also games on steam are always on sale and I literally have never bought a triple A game for $60 on there. (I have 100ish games....) Because steam sales can make a game that's usually 60 dollars about 15.

"Red Ring of Death?" um red rings are from an outdated console, if you want to talk about the 360, then we should be talking about 2001 computers. also that wasn't a big problem and most of the time it was fixable. i get a lot of problems when i download PC games especially off steam, and it's just much more complicated downloading disk drives, and updating software. it gets annoying. id rather sit down on my bed, and play on my large screen TV where i feel much more controlled and a lot better.

if you can read pc, clicking on a prompt to download things on pc is easy. however, if you are illiterate it may become difficult.

@Imperatos lol you realize that your TV is probably 1080p while I can get a monitor that is 4k....... Also you do realize you can hook up a controller to any game (third party programs if it isn't supported already in game) and hook up your PC to your TV? 'i get a lot of problems when i download PC games especially off steam, and it's just much more complicated downloading disk drives, and updating software. it gets annoying. um you are literally the only one that this happens to then.
