I might start watching it only cause my friends want me to.
They tell me "you're the only asian we know that doesn't watch anime. Instead of being a nerd, you're a jock..."
I mean, it's inappropriate (the ones I've seena are really bad). It's weird, creepy, strange, and idk just weird...
So why is it good? |

Clearly you have not ever watched an anime because the only people who really think anime is all inappropriate stuff are the people who make their points based on the fan art and images they see on the internet.
Most anime have real storylines with some fairly weird stuff (but not in the bad way). I mean, stuff that's normal is boring.
Little bits of fanservice aren't uncommon but normally aren't that vulgar.
Watch something like AnoHana or Death Note or Durarara!!, you'll see what I mean. |

the recommendations you gave are not good recommendations for someone who is just starting to watch anime except death note.
Easy starter animes would be stuff like Full Metal Alchemist, Black Lagoon (a bit edgier and more hardcore), and something like arakawa under the bridge |

I love Fullmetal Alchemist but it's way, way too long to suggest to someone who's clearly never even watched anime. Shorter anime work way better for just getting a taste of what anime is like. |

The only reason why a person thinks that way of anime, is because they look at the cons and none of the pros of something.
All the inappropriate things are true, but everything has a darkside, but everything has a light side.
Anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, or Anohana, are really good. (Anohana is a slice of life/supernatural tearjerker)
Everything has a weird side too, it's just anime's weird and inappropriate side is just exaggerated and spotlighted. |

fullmetal alchemist is a fantastic anime to start with if you don't mind violence
it is long, but most people who start watching anime are okay with long series (DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece)
Good thing it's not 300 episodes long, though.

Those anime are easy to start with because they literally go on forever and since it's basically impossible to catch up from episode 1, they have to make it easy to just join in watching at whatever stage.
Long anime that actually have a beginning and an ending aren't great for first anime (stuff like FMA) |

Did it ever occur to you that there's thousands of anime and none of them define anime as a whole? There's a plethora of genres and concepts that could appeal to someone. Anime as a whole is not "good" nor "bad", because the usages of those terms are based on opinions, not facts and there's too much diversity to generalize it.
Don't depend on the opinions of preteen forumers...seek recommendations or search for anime that may suit your preference or seem watchable, then try them and form your own opinions on those shows...or just don't watch anime and move on with your life. You're not obligated to watch anime just because you're asian. |

If you're planning on starting an anime, I'd recommend Cowboy Bebop.
It's the perfect gateway anime, and the English dub is WAY better than the sub. |

Not horrible, just played out. It was funny to get people that would be disgusted with that one before everyone started becoming aware of what Boku no Pico is. |
