"I like how the US is looked at as worse than imperial European countries up to 1900s" America put a ton of pressure to stop colonialism and it benefited nobody. The end of colonialism lead to instability in the Middle East and Africa, causing the bloody civil wars in Africa and signalling the start of violence in the Middle East eventually escalating into what it is today. The end of colonialism also significantly effected the economies of Europe sending them into decline while America rose, leading to America being the last Western superpower instead of Britain and France. (Also, the British empire did a fantastic job of stopping the slave trade while it was still legal for many more years in America.)
