You don't like it fine, but this is what I think of it as a music critic.
5SOS's Debut is reminiscent of the songs of One Direction, only they are not a boy-band, they are a pop punk band. They aren't Green Day that's for sure, but they have their own admiration in some respects. I can joke about them being butt ugly but that is not what I am talking about. But is the album any good?
COVER:
The Cover comes in many forms. It's the band, with a graffiti X across them while there are some very sketchy stuff in the background. Resembling the audience of today's music in some ways. Interesting artwork. But forgettable.
SONGS:
The single She Looks So Perfect almost rips off the chorus vocals to Lola by The Kinks. But it really is a fun summer song.
Good Girls is a bad song. The third song on the album has nothing memorable about it. No cool little tricks, just a generic song with a WAAAH OOOH chorus.
The WAAH OOOH thing happens again in the song Kiss me Kiss me. I am beginning to notice a pattern. The songs have this HEEEY EY EY or WAAH OOH thing going on. It isn't creative, it just lacks originality.
18 is a really good song though. The catchy guitars give the song power and the lyrics you can really hum. This is one of the better songs on the album.
Beside You has an OK Chorus, It is something we have all heard before, but I kind of have an affection for it.
End Up Here starts with a synthesizer intro which I must admit is pretty neat. I didn't think a band like this would use something like that with their songs. For some reason, I am beginning to think all the choruses sound the same. I must admit this is not the most original album.
Heartbreak Girl has a pretty uncommon guitar intro, in fact, the song feels really weird. Oh BTW The Chorus. Sounds the same as all the others.
So I'm done with Summaries of the Songs. What is my Overall?
OVERALL:
An Unoriginal, Bubblegum Punk Album with redundant choruses, few good songs with a few shining moments.
5.7/10
If The Choruses were different for each song, I would have given this album a higher rating. But they do have potential to make better songs. Their EP She Looks So Perfect is better then the whole album because of the song Heartache On The Big Screen which should have been on this album to save it.
