I boot my PC once a day. It takes a couple of minutes with windows 7. My games load quickly. a 1 TB hdd is 60 bucks. a 120 GB ssd? 60 as well. I don't see why PC builders feel required to get an SSD. The performance isn't worth it. Better GPU>SSD.

They decrease the boot time greatly

which only matters on a laptop or a computer you shut down every time you leave the room lol

Saving up for one ATM but.... I'll be frank, you're wrong, it also decreases game loading times, app boot up times, etc

I never said they don't, fdfxd. I said games already load fast enough on a hdd and that putting money towards a gpu is probably a better place for your cash.

Call me a dumbass, but what's a SSD? The first thing I thought of was a STD...

@Wiki Solid state drives. Basically a hard drive without magnetic disks, or permenant non volatile ram as I like to call it

if ssds are non volatile ram, then why is ram so expensive vs an ssd and why couldn't an ssd be used as ram?

SSDs are good when they are working alongside a HDD. SSDs aren't required for a gaming PC. They are more of a privilege, if you can afford it.

as blob said ssd's are privilege, not requirement or necessary i'm 100% tolerable with my pc booting up in about a minute or so, but it's nice to boot a little faster Can I have a few more napkins to THROW INTO THIS BONFIRE

"It takes a couple of minutes with windows 7" A couple minutes to boot? On a hard disk? That just isn't right, you must have some sort of virus on your computer, unless it's extremely old.

I boot my PC up a few times a day, as I shut it down every time that I go to the store or something, so an SSD would probably help, but Windows 8 boots rather fast for me anyways, so I don't have a problem with it. The Cake Is A Lie!

I love my SSD. I have chrome on my SSD and its so fast. Not to mention I boot up in under 15 seconds. Before on my 1TB HDD on my old PC I had to wait 5 minutes to start Chrome or else it would take a while to load up but then after that it'd be fine. I am fluffy. Add 4,623 Posts.

@xFluffy The CPU and ram also have roles in the discussion of program start up speed

SSD are to be used as secondary hard drives and such. HDD - for windows, and other junk SSD - for your games Everyone who considers themselves an MLG competitive pro gamer should uninstall life

Not having to defragment, makes SSDs very worthwhile to me.

one does not put 'junk' on their SSD. They are hardware very limited in space.

@Zang But you really should put your OS inside there..

I wouldn't. I don't have an ssd, but if i did, i would keep my OS on it. My booting time does not matter to me. Like I said, I boot once a day, minus any required restarts. Windows 7 can take 20 GB of space, and that space could be used for games, if my load times were so unsatisfactory for me to spend money on an ssd.
