What Makes A Good Thrash Metal Song?
What do you think? |

Give it a sprinkle of a catchy guitar hook, to bring you into the song.
Then a good riff.
Add in a fair amount of double bass, to get some speed going.
A killer guitar solo, just for good measure.
Along with a angry vocalist.
Some angry lyrics can be thrown it too ;)
That to me creates the perfect Thrash Metal song. |

I agree.
Very fast tempo drumming including double bass.
Vicious themed vocals said very agressivley (In the 80's not screamed, well not modern screaming)
Crunchy guitar sound of Kill Em All I think has stood out about thrash. And I really like that guitar sound.
And as you said the brilliant guitar solo, normally done very fast. |

Kill 'Em All is an amazing example of thrash. My idea of a perfect thrash song was based on the Reign in Blood album that I currently have on, it's the perfect thrash album in my opinion. |

Reign in blood is deffinatly great.
Classic thrash albums:
Kill Em All-Metallica
Peace Sells...But Who's Buying-Megadeth
Reign In Blood-Slayer
Among The Living-Anthrax
Bonded By Blood-Exodus (I Do Not Have Yet)
Pleasure To Kill-Kreator
Machine Head are a good modern thrash band. |

Machine Head give me hope that old school Thrash may some day become back in full strength! |

Yeah as Machine Head still do their own kind of music however it is much closer to thrash than most popular metal bands of today. Machine Head mainly carry the flame along with long time thrashers Slayer. Metallica and Megadeth have recently taken the flame back too by coming back to more thrash sounds. |

I agree with Calum101, most of my favorite thrash metal songs have those elements. |

kk cool. I think that generally is what makes a great thrash song. |

Is there anything we could be missing? |

We only touched on fast guitar shredding. It's a big part of Thrash, not just in the solo but all through the song. Also, any Thrash Song must be quite agressive at same parts, if not all the way through. |
