she likes my best friend.
They are dating, but my friend doesn't actually like her, he just says she's stupid and an idiot but won't tell her and acts like he likes her because he says she's hot, but I actually like her because she's nice and it physically pains me when he talks about how stupid she is. I don't want to tell her and lose my best friend, or if she doesn't believe me she'll just say I'm trying to get her to not like him so she'll he free to go out with me.

You could do that but you have to be very careful on how you approach certain situations
especially when it involves a best friend - you can't jeopardize that
You have multiple options like so:
A) Wait for it to fall apart and go in for the swoop
B) Hook your friend up and have your best friend cheat(yes its bad i know) and then you'll be there to be there for the girl you like and eventually you'll move into a relationship
