Don't really care what texas does, they can do whatever they'd like because they'd all perish if faced with the nation's military in a war.

The flag was used by Robert E. Lee's battalion. General Robert E. Lee didn't condone racism.
In a letter written in on December 27, 1856 by Robert E Lee, he says:
"I was much pleased the with President's message. His views of the systematic and progressive efforts of certain people at the North to interfere with and change the domestic institutions of the South are truthfully and faithfully expressed. The consequences of their plans and purposes are also clearly set forth. These people must be aware that their object is both unlawful and foreign to them and to their duty, and that this institution, for which they are irresponsible and non-accountable, can only be changed by them through the agency of a civil and servile war. There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil."
He fought for his state against an oppressive [and slaveholding] North and the federal government in order to defend his state.
Why hate a flag that symbolizes fighting for state rights? |

perhaps you should learn history before forming idiotic opinions |
|
|
werent you the one that got mad when i used ad hominem
anyways, the design used now was a hybrid of that flag combined with the confederate navy jack
so no, the flag used now was not a widespread flag used in the civil war
it gained popularity because of its use in different groups, most notably the "triple k" |
|
|
actually im wrong here, the design used now is a rejected design from the civil war
still, wasnt actually used in the civil war and gained its popularity through the group(s) i mentioned |

Actually the flag gained popularity first in WWII
USS Columbia flew the flag all throughout the war. It was also raised in the Battle of Okinawa, and symbolized people of southern heritage. |

The rectangular one used that's popular now was used by The Army of Tennessee.
Robert E. Lee used a squared design, like the one that flew on the SC Capitol. |
|
|
not really, the "triple k" was using the flag far before wwii and gained a lot of popularity for the flag throughout their run
they played a major role in changing the government in various southern states throughout that time and were a huge group
around the 1920s, they had almost 4,000,000 members |

They also flew the American flag. Should we ban it too? |
|
|
theres kind of a difference between the flags they flew
the american flag was a flag that already was designed and used to represent the country
the confed flag was a rejected design adopted by them

No, the confederate battle flag was a rejected design for the official flag of the CSA, so Robert E. Lee's regiment as well as others adopted it and used it in battle.
The confederate battle flag and the American flag were both flown. Just because someone flew it for a wrong cause doesn't mean it's a racist flag. |
