? Well sorry lady but the civil war isn't only about the slave trade. Many other people fought in the civil war for various reasons and putting yours over theirs is ignoring peoples history.

She's being fined $3,000, she's going to spend three years in jail, and the flag was raised again. Civil disobedience doesn't always work the way you want it to.

Oh yes, because all of the young men who took part on the confederate side were hardened slave owners.

@Orvain No, they thought they were fighting for freedom or some crap. But what they were really fighting for was the interests of the slaveholding elite (which did include the perpetuation of slavery).

the civil war was mainly about slaves there were other reasons sure but mainly about slaves "sitting across from you i felt so cold"

The Civil War was more about states' rights than slavery. The slavery issues may have been a catalyst, but I think the south was more concerned about its rights and freedoms as individual states.

Almost all the southern states seceded specifically for the reason to keep slavery ~swiggity swooty i'm coming for that booty

@hy Oh really? One of the most influential men in the south, Sam Houston actually wanted to never have slavery. Meanwhile lincoln only abolished it to "Keep the union together". Please.

"Almost all the southern states seceded specifically for the reason to keep slavery" I understand it a little differently, but maybe I'll do some more digging.

@ORvain It should be noted that Houston was also a unionist. So he doesn't really count as being on "the south/Confederacy's side".

He was a southerner and a influential one. His opinion doesn't magically make him part of the union. Here is quite a nice line. "History is written by the victors."

@Orvain Well, he definitely wasn't in favor of the confederacy. I never denied that he was a true southerner just that he doesn't really count as a "confederate elite" if he wasn't supporting them.

Flag holds no good meaning in it. There's no pride in any part of it. I hope those swamp heads do get out of the union, tired of seeing their idiotic "heritage" on TV. yeah....

"Dixiecrats" excuse me but I'm dying. It was a flag used in the later part of the war, so you are correct in it not being used much. But it's still iconic. How would you feel if a flag that your ancestors fought by was taken down out of disrespect as well as being spat on and lit on fire normally as a sign of disrespect to it?

@Orvain The American flag is the flag of their ancestors. Not the "Dixie flag", which is just a symbol of hatred.
