I think I can explain why with a response to the following argument I see frequently on the forums:
"If you don't like the new events, why do you still play them?"
Sure, people will always play the events as long as they're available; they're a supply of free hats. But the fact that events have gone from something revered by the community to something most people either hate or are at the very least apathetic about is worrying. Why?
It's because the reason events are played isn't about the events themselves anymore. It's not about discovering an entirely new game, exploring the map for secrets, finding out how to get the new prizes, or racing against the clock to get the items before they can't be won anymore. Events are entirely about just getting to the prizes and ignoring the experience.
Events used to mean something, and if ROBLOX had suddenly stopped making events at any time during or before 2014, people would've been upset because they were always excited for what crazy event ROBLOX had next. Nowadays, if we were to stop getting a nonstop stream of unoriginal, typically sponsored developer events, and instead just got the prizes as one-ticket items, there's a good chance not many people would care about events being gone.
It's not at all about whether or not people play the events. It's about whether or not people care about them, and nowadays, nobody cares anymore.
TOO LONG; DIDN'T READ: People will always play the events, but if ROBLOX were to get rid of them and just make sponsor items for clicking on ads or purchasable for one ticket, nobody would care. The "magic", for lack of a better term, of the original events is gone.
[On a side-note: ROBLOX gauges how much users enjoy the events by how many people win the prizes. However, if they're going to force poor players into playing terrible, repetitive events to have any cosmetic items at all aside from free hair and clothes (aside from the 1 ticket sponsors), they're going to try and win it despite whether or not the event's enjoyable. Instead of using a statistic meaningless to actual enjoyment, use a poll to find out what the community wants.] |

I would love ROBLOX to make an event that's NOT sponsored! Who cares about a cheap Catch The Food game for Lunchables? Who cares about finding items in a game you can get in the catalog for a Ticket? I remember the 2011 Easter Egg Hunt (Yes, I did exist back then on ROBLOX) and it was wonderful! It was so original amd NOT sponsered! They should listen to the community and put effort into their events. I caught one of the items for an event, went into a game and everyone said I just got it in the catalog. Such effort wasted!
