Why, you ask? Microsoft released a statement in 2013 saying the Xbox 360 live servers would most likely be cut in 2016. So, for the last few months until then I will run a modded console (corona v4 modchip), and then will use System LiNK (rjtag hack) servers to continue playing online :D
there is three main modding types, here are the differences:
JTAG
Easier to install, only requires 3 wires and a diode
Cheap: Only cost is a diode, and wires.
Normal boot times
Can only be done on phats (more likely to RROD) with the dashboard 7371 or earlier
Cannot run Xecuter Fusion (a custom NAND that is a hybrid of a dev NAND and retail NAND, but there are alternatives)
RGH
Harder to install, requires a chip and 6-7 wires, also some smaller points
Expensive: Chip with wires costs around 30 dollars, and addons for certain setups that can add up to much more
Longer boot times: Best being around 5 seconds with average being around 15-30 seconds and worst being 1-2 minutes
Can be done on phats (but better to use R-JTAG) or slims (very unlikely to RROD) with any dashboard
Can run Xecuter Fusion
Can use DemoN to do a dual NAND setup (about an extra 50-60 dollars) (DOESN'T WORK ON CORONA V2's/V4's)
R-JTAG

Decent Boot Times: On average they are around 10 seconds, sometimes instant boot
Can only be used on phats of any dash version

Im going to be doing an R-JTAG on my 2005 (yes its that old) zephyr xbox 360. If i wouldnt have updated in 2012 i couldve done a normal jtag, or rgh but now i have to do an rjtag. wish me luck! i will update this thread with progress after i recieve parts. |

update: connected x360 to pc with standard audio out/in . vga cable didnt work so i used dvi-d in cable, then used audio cable converter. ordering corona v4 today
-basic connections for the r jtag work mostly xD
-acquired ftp file transfer cable
-acquired two sets of speakers, one normal and one water speaker set
-hooked up xbox 360 to my main monitor so it will be easier to mod (instead of going back and forth)
-one set of speakers for pc, one for xbox (water speakers on pc because of no built in sound system)

No updates will change the fact that the rjtag wont work, as it is a hardware glitch. However, updating directly from the xbox and not using a NAND converter will blow the E-Fuses and brick my xbox. So yeah, updates through microsoft break everything. |

@viper yeah but i wouldnt blow 350 just to play 20 backwards compatable games on xone
update 6: xconsoles website is messing up so i have to re order everything through modchipcentral, total 77.45$ INCLUDING qsb v3 and jrprogrammer v2. i also have miniusb to usb converter |

update 7: soldering kit with 11 tips (only 20watt) came in and .022 diameter rosin core solder came in. i think i will blow another 7.5usd to get flux even though rosin core has it built in (no chances). modchip coming on tuesday, possibly sooner. |
