Basically, I've had this concept in my head for awhile. In essence, a powerful being takes residence in a small town and offers to grant people powers. The catch is that the powers take so much willpower to properly harness, that most of the people who are given the powers can't really control them properly and begin to cause issues in the town. Seemed very...young adult literature-y. The concept could be cool if done right, or very generic if done wrong

Understandably so. I'm trying to stay away from some of the more common tropes in young adult literature (e.g. popularity is evil, a giant love dodecahedron, characters that are quirky because they don't follow the crowd and so on) which I'm hoping will save it from being like a million other young adult stories out there.
