Everyone in Finland seems to think that this is a very good idea. But on the downside, the track is going to be a street circuit (meaning that it's probably not going to see a lot of exciting racing) and the current proposed layout looks like a tampon.

@ Kasanga Valid point, but Bernie doesn't really care what type of circuits are used. All he cares about is the money that these races will make. Finland will have HUGE fan turnouts for a F1 race because motorsport is really popular there. Any costs to build facilities and such would easily be regained by ticket sales and merchandise sales.

Yes they have 2 Finnish drivers in the form of Valterri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen. But I'm worried with no Finnish drivers coming up in the lower series and Kimi retiring there will only be 1 to cheer for in 2018.

Nico Rosberg is also half-Finnish so he has quite a few fans in Finland. His dad was Finland's first ever F1 champion in 1982 and actually grew up in my hometown of Oulu. Most of Finland's young racing drivers have leaned towards rallying (Esapekka Lappi) and endurance racing (Patrick Kujala) in recent years, but there's always going to be that one youngster who gets a shot at F1 and becomes good. Nobody saw Räikkönen coming when Häkkinen was around, and nobody saw Bottas coming until about 2010 when Kimi went to WRC for a couple of years. Someone's going to come up in a few years. I also wouldn't completely count out the possibility of Lappi going to F1 eventually if he does really well in WRC, because the transition from rallying to circuit racing is entirely possible. Henri Toivonen in the 1980s would have easily been a top-10 F1 driver.

Monaco is always quite exciting and thats a street circuit, and I will be pleased because thats another new track for the F1 video games. also 5% chance of me going to the silverstone race next year for F1 :)

Monaco and Singapore are the only exciting street circuits (unless you actually count Montreal and Melbourne too). Valencia was an absolute disaster and Sochi isn't much better. Azerbaijan is easily going to be THE SINGLE WORST TRACK that F1 has ever seen though.

Azerbaijan looks really good. Don't know why people are wary of it...
