How would you feel if the season was shortened to about 100 games or so starting next season?

If the game was shortened to 30 games I might watch just because every game would count

Every game does count in baseball. If you see 162 games as too long, just look at the individual series. Like the Pirates just swept their 3 game series against the Dodgers.

Of course every game matters in the long run, just look at how close some postseason races are, but nobody loses a game midseason and thinks "Oh man, our season is now in jeopardy" or wins a game and says to themself "That is a HUGE step to the playoffs"

I would be enraged about 30 games. That means the best pitchers would only pitch around 7 times. And it's more of a crapshoot with undeserving teams winning.

Jimbo, the Cups just swept a 4 game series vs the Giants. They feel like that right know about how that push is getting them in the playoffs.

so it took an entire 4 game sweep for them to feel like "Wow, this is our push", and it's nothing compared to what the urgency would be like in a shorter season. Football is the most popular league in the US right now because of the urgency, every game has a pressured atmosphere because every game truly counts and FEELS like it counts. Go ahead and tell me with a straight face that baseball teams go into a midseason game, win it, and think "This is a huge win for us, a chance to really turn around our season" Not predicting that it would improve ratings or increase the number of fans, but from a neutral standpoint, my biggest problem with baseball is that the games don't feel like they mean anything

It works for football because the better team will end up winning in those short seasons. If baseball had a similar schedule of just playing on the weekends and having a total of lets say 50 games then it's a total crap shoot, and doesn't give credit to the actual well made teams.

I would be outraged. Baseball is a game of longevity. Whatever team can last through the long 162 game season consistent enough makes the playoffs.

@jimbo that's why i love college football. EVERY GAME COUNTS. Even the ones againt teams like Lamar University.....

That's what's too bad about the entire thing, wish baseball could get that playoff-type atmosphere for almost every game like the NFL does

Well jim, in a pennant race (as the mets are right now) EVERY game does count. I'm at the edge of my seat for every game, not to mention the Nationals games.

Or you can go to a true baseball city. Boston, San Francisco, St Louis, Chicago, or New York. Detroit and Los Angeles even. They have great atmospheres at the game.

Nin, yes, maybe a diehard like you is on the edge of your seat, but if the Mets lose a game, it's "so what, we've still got a good amount of time", if they win, it's "Woohoo!" to all the neutrals out there. Not to mention a true pennant race didn't even develop until the last third of the season

When I went to the mets game Sunday Night vs Nationals it felt like a playoff game. Sold out. Screaming crowd.

@Jim the thing is in football if you have a bad start you'll have trouble overcoming that. In baseball you have the rest of the season to figure it out.

Every game matters in baseball too, it develops slowly. It's fun to watch your team win, at least from my point of view. Especially since I have watched 5 straight losing seasons I'm so happy to see some life from the Mets.

Giants this year have been super streaky. Win 9 out of 10 a few times, then lose 6 or 8 in a row. The emotional roller coaster is insane.

Well, I already said it up at the top of this thread...but yes, of course every game matters, it does in every sport, it just doesn't feel like every game matters...at all, and that's what gets viewers, which generates good ratings. I'm not the only one who thinks this

Baseball is extremely popular on the regional spectrum.
