FIFA/IFAF is an organization of national RO soccer teams. Our current major event is the FIFA World Cup (Qualifying at the moment) and here is an unofficial format for the confederations.
Round Robin is when you face the same team twice. In all confederations there is Round Robin. Round Robin has effect in an individual group. If it is Round Robin x1 in a 4 team group, each team must face the three other teams twice (6 matches in total if you do the math). Round Robin x1 in a 3 team group, each team must face the other two teams twice (4 matches altogether). Round Robin x2 in a 3 team group is 8 matches altogether for one team in the group and Round Robin x3 in a single matchup which is 2 teams is 6 matches altogether.

Top 2 teams of each group advance to the World Cup. (Round Robin x1)
Every 3rd placed team is placed in one group of the four 3rd placed teams. Each team plays the other team once (no Round Robin). The winner of the group advances to the World Cup.

The two teams that win their match advance to the World Cup. The two teams that lose their match have a play off match to decide who goes into the International-Confederation playoff match against the winner of Oceania qualifying. The winner of the Inter-Confeder match advances to the World Cup.
