I say he had a successful life and I would celebrate him. Russia and eastern Europe had serfs which were basically slaves. All he did was conquer new land and make them his own people. Yes people died, yes diseases were spread -- BUT the English spread diseases, and they killed Indians on frontiers too. So yeah I like Columbus but personally I would have been a lot nicer and set up a coalition instead of the start of a conquest.
