True fact. Became so skint from the moral choice it could not control areas such as india, middle east. Churchill said it would be the downfall of the empire if they did not take action, but economically it was impossible without extending conscription etc. This costs is mainly for holding 2 years, and repaying the US for every bullet used.

1st bit of valid info really and no one reads. Ill add some bait that the US would never do it, but would then declare themselves the sole reason britain doesnt speak german despite the fact sealion failed.

world war two definitely sped up the decline however i doubt churchill would have let the colonies go so easily had he stayed prime minster instead of clement atlee taking his place of course any attempt at fighting decolonisation would have been messy and ultimately unrewarding for britain so labour probably wanted to lose the colonies more than the tories and this is shown by the tory government's actions in suez 1956 (which was britain's only really major attempt at fighting back and funnily enough this was also the date which people attribute to britain losing its superpower status) therefore britain had no choice especially with pressure from the us.

Pressure from the US meant nothing due to the soviets. It was a economic short term benefit not to fight

pressure from the US meant everything britain signed a document by the US called the four freedoms in the middle of the second world war, which guaranteed the following: Freedom of speech Freedom of worship Freedom from want Freedom from fear britain had to sign it because they were desperate for american help at this point (height of axis power, the tide hadnt turned yet on the eastern front so germany were beating russia's ass at this point in time)
