Melbourne, Australia: 9 clubs in the Australian Football League alone, all of which play in the city itself. That isn't even including their multiple other major sports teams which is more than NYC, population 4.5 million. NYC: 11 teams in the area but one says it's from New Jersey (NJ Devils) and 3 others don't even play in the city despite calling themselves NY teams so 7 clubs that both play and say they're from NYC in 5 sports, population 8.5 million. melbourne used to have 13 but university shut up show back during ww1, south melbourne relocated to sydney in the 80s and gave birth to the legend of warwick capper. fitzroy merged with the brisbane bears to make the brisbane lions in the year i was born. and before austraian rules had a national competition (1990), my states league (south australia) had 11 teams in a city of 1.5 million and we were getting 20,000-30,000 a game for port adelaide v norwood.

yonnd, to be fair, most people in australia worship aussie rules like a religion, and the national competition was victoria's old state league. the only people who don't go to church every sunday are those rugby loving wancs up north in sydney.

New York is small when you compare land to the amount of people in it. Butch Jones is the real Messiah.

New York loves their sports too. It's not about who wants it more. It's just the fact that New York City has 8.5M people in 304 square miles of available land. There just no freaking room to build anything as big as MetLife Stadium.

it's the same with melbourne in terms of population and land mass and yet they have two stadiums that can fit 55,000+ (mcg actually fits 100,000 people). i've been to melbourne and i have family who live there (albeit in the rough areas) and it's not that big.

HALF. Same =/= HALF Also Melbourne has a land mass of almost 4000sq miles.....................................................
