how a hacker ruined mw2 for my son and me

Back ground.... I divorced my sons wife a few years ago. He is 16 now but we have lived apart ever since. I'm single, have a full time job I was recently stationed in an isolated place in Alaska. So my only contact with him other than talking over the phone was through playing MW2 online in the same party/Clan. During my time playing with or without him online, I managed to reach the 10th prestige and obtain nearly every hard to get title and emblem without boosting. My son had quite a few hard to get titles and emblems too. He was prestige 8 and decided he wouldn't go any further because too many people "hacked" their way to the 10th. We had a blast and it gave me the opportunity to interact with him on a daily basis. We got to hang out during the holidays which was a blast. He finally got a chance to check out my Surround Sound Headphones (Psyko 5.1 - I highly recommend trying out a set) and we had a great time. A few days after he got back to his Moms house we logged onto MW2 (PS3) and started playing again. We started to play a public game of Ground War (Domination) on High Rise. As I'm working my way up to the "Headshot" Title for the Javelin for getting so many Multi Kills, I was getting killed repeatedly from this one sniper. I viewed one of the kill cams just to get an idea on where he was camping. Well, I switch my class from "Danger Close Javelin Dude" to "Stabba Jaw" (Commando Pro, Fall Camo UMP, Desert Eagle w/Tact Knife, Marathon Pro, Lightweight Pro, Syntax and Stun Grenades) and hunted for that camper. I get onto the other side of the map by going through the tunnels and come up in the other building where he is camping and start stabbing everyone on his team as I work my way to this one camping sniper. Once I get him in my sights I or course stabbed him. I got the Payback Achievement notice flash on the screen and got an instant smile. Now I'm in stabbing mode so I managed to stab that guy and his team a lot more for the remanding period of that Ground War game. The game ends and now we are back in the lobby. After a few minutes my son tells me "Hey Dad your Clan Tag says the "C" word (i.e. female anatomy). I was like "WTF?" and changed it back to FTHR. It was weird as heck but I didn't think anything of it. So now we start the next Ground War game in Favela and I choose my "Sneaky Ninja" class. Right away I noticed that my footsteps are audible. So I switched to my "Sneaky Sniper" class and my footsteps were still audible despite having Ninja Pro on both classes. So I tell my son to back out. While he is waiting for me to check out my perks he says "Dad, your title is back to FNG." I check my classes and all my camo's for the guns, all my attachments, all my pro versions of perks, nearly all my titles and emblems are gone. He said a hacker probably erased it on the server we were on which I have heard about happening but only when you are in a private game and are invited by someone within that game. Fast forward a little bit and we never go on MW2 because it took the fun out of it for me. He is too scared to play because he doesn't want to loose all of his titles, perks, etc.. I got him Black Ops as an alternate and it is just not the same for us. What we had was a good thing between the two of us considering we were living on opposite coasts from each other. This was our one way of always having more than a conversation over the phone and now it was minimized. We tried other online PS3 games but it's not the same anymore.
