I agree, MLS could be better as well, they have terrible advertisements and the channels that broadcast their games (ESPN and FS1) barely air any advertisements leading up to the game |

During the summer, NHL Network shows a one hour recap of classic games. |

The NHL doesn't really have a lot of marketing possibilities outside of the outdoor games and the All-Star Game (which became absolutely pathetic a few years ago).
It's hard to increase the excitement of hockey because it's already very fast-paced and physical and fun to watch in its current state. 3V3 overtime was progress, but that's overtime. The majority of games don't go to overtime.
Celebrity games may sound stupid for hockey, but it's possible if they can find enough hockey-playing celebs. Finland has actually had two celebrity games, so I'm sure the American continent can do it. That being said, it does still sound stupid.
US marketing isn't helped by the fact that there are still lots of people who are stupid enough to think that ESPN is actually a credible sports channel.
Overseas marketing would be hard for the NHL because the current president of the IIHF (Rene Fasel) is extremely anti-NHL and wants to keep it out of Europe as much as possible. They DID have the NHL Premiere for a few years but I have no idea what happened to it. |

European hockey leagues (particularily the KHL) do a much better job of marketing than the NHL does.
That's just laughable. |

it also doesnt help that nbcsn has a niche market. |

NHL should copy NBA Summer League. Rookies/Sophmores only. |

the worst thing the NHL has done is part ways with ESPN. it's the only major sports league that doesn't have a broadcasting contract with the channel. it's no wonder they have no/limited coverage on it. |

"the worst thing the NHL has done is part ways with ESPN. it's the only major sports league that doesn't have a broadcasting contract with the channel. it's no wonder they have no/limited coverage on it."
One reason why I'm not that much of a huge fan of hockey |

A summer league would be intriguing. Let's be honest who would watch. I know I would seeing my 1st round pick going out and my other young rookies. Plus it's better then nothing. The NHL just dies in the summer. |

A reason why nba is better
They are active in the summer while the nhl doesn't do anything |

@sir
there is an NHL prospect tournament before the preseason. there's development camp scrimages livestreamed on your teams website
don't go complaining about this when you haven't put in the effort to find these things lol |
|

@Doctor I do know there is a prospect tournament. But a.) its very small b.) they need to do good job marketing. Once again. They need all the teams to participate and they need to make it broader. The NBA does great job of hosting it in vegas and making it big. Meanwhile NHL holds it in a small ice facility and doesn't have many teams |
