We were losing too many men now. Already 10 were gone, and I can't risk any more. Deciding to retreat for now, I regrouped my remaining soldiers and ordered the retreat.
"We shall see each other soon enough."
I spit some blood on the ground in defiance, before darting out of the enemy's presence. This was a failure on my part, and I already accepted the punishments for my own failure.
Nathan
Looks like the enemy has retreated now. Focus should be on fortifying this weak fence link, as that's where the enemy was able to intrude on the FOB in the first place. Fireteam Nexus regrouped and set up a perimeter for the FOB guards to show up. The Engineering Corps should arrive soon to patch up security in the base.
"Well, that could've went worse." I mutter to Riella. |
[Riella]
"Yeah. Good job I upgraded my Beam Rifle so it can charge up a powerful beam. If I hadn't have done that, we might've been done for." I say to him, packing up my sentry. "Something for the Engineering Corps to censider when they get here: Fortify it more by adding a concrete wall behind it and all around the rest of the fence. That'll greatly decrease the chances that they'll get through to the FOB." |
Nathan
"Alright. I'll leave that up to the Engineering Corps. We'll secure the perimeter until the FOB Guards arrive."
This intrusion was unacceptable for the diplomats' safety. If these troops could enter into our FOB without trouble, what can we say of their guaranteed safety. I'll have to factor this in when prepping for the escort mission. |
[Riella]
"Should I go check up on the Abassadors, Captain?" I ask, having nothing else to do now. |
Nathan
"Yes, Lieutenant Riella. You go do that. Security of this FOB is compromised for the time being. Keep those ambassadors safe."
I walked away from Riella, as Fireteam Nexus set up a perimeter around the weak fence. Mark set up a Mk. 5 mortar nearby in case of another intrusion. |
[Riella]
"Affirmative." I head to the Ambassadors' position, taking a detour to my workshop to drop-off my armour and weapons. I greet them as I enter there location. |

All ambassadors were rounded up and left in this armored barrack. From the sounds of things, it seemed that there was a security breach in the base, and that meant that our safety was in danger. Hopefully, it won't come to a full scale battle here. That'll be the last thing I'll ever see.
Lieutenant Riella had reappeared since the alarms and greeted us on the way in.
"Hello, Lieutenant Riella. What had happened out there? Are we safe?" |
[Riella]
"We were attacked by members of the Dalro Corps. We fought back with all that we had and the enemy retreated with heavy losses. We are safe, for now. The Engineering Corps are fortifying the fence as I speak, with personal instructions from me to build a concrete wall behind the fence to greatly reduce the chance of then breaching our defenses." I say to them. |

The FOB guards and the Army Engineering Corps soon arrived, and we transferred the security duties to them. I soon made my way back to the ambassadors' barracks, after I took off my HAVOK armor. Riella was already there, making sure the ambassadors' concerns were addressed.
"Anything happen, Lieutenant Riella?" |
[Riella]
"Not really. Have the Engineering Corps built the concrete wall yet?" |
Nathan
"They're working on it now. We should report to the HQ this intrusion. Have the base be on full alert for the next few hours, just to be safe."
I quickly trotted out the door after saying a few words with Ambassador Bridges. Making my way down the halls, I pulled up my comms link.
"Base had a few intruders. Put the base on full alert."
HQ responded immediately. The base was put on full lockdown for the next five hours. Patrols were doubled, and lethal force was authorized. All AERIS Fireteams were ordered to patrol the area outside the FOB. I gathered Fireteam Nexus for that very task. |

Fireteam Loki had barely entered its barracks when the lockdown order came from HQ. All AERIS Fireteams were ordered to protect the base from outside elements, and this included Loki. I groaned as I just wanted to spend my unofficial off-day in peace, but there was no choice. Grabbing my HoloRifle, I jogged outside along with the rest of Fireteam Loki. On the way out, we encountered Fireteam Nexus.
"Good afternoon Captain Walker. Looks like we're in deep trouble." |
[Riella]
"I'll set up sentries at all possible breaching spots, making sure they're well hidden." I say to Nathan before heading off to my workshop to grab my wrench and glove that holds my PDA. |

Now, it was time for damage assessment. Fireteam Nexus led the way to the intrusion space. Footprints from the breech were hard to spot, as explosion craters were littered on the ground. Even then, I found a clear trail from the breach into the... medbay? No way. Those animals! They dare attack the injured!
Rushing into the medical wing, I found the hallway covered in blood. The doctors were found impaled and hacked apart from longswords. Scattered HoloRifles and HoloPistols could be found everywhere. And there she was... Specialist McKinley...
She had no pulse. A large wound was on her chest, presumably made by a longsword.
I started the corpse recovery work, ordering the cleaning crew to gather the scattered remains and IDing the corpses if their appearance was too mangled. |

Fireteam Nexus soon separated to investigate the intrusion site. Meanwhile, Fireteam Loki headed on its patrol path outside the FOB. Fireteam Leader Knox ordered us into a formation, in case of an ambush. Our Specialist was trailing us from behind, scouting the areas ahead with his high-powered binoculars and Type-45 HoloSniper. Our Support soldier was doing his best to carry the heavy Holo-MG for a suppressive fire-effect.
Chris was acting professional, as he often did when in emergency situations. He wasn't bantering anymore, but rather focused on the task at hand. His inner flames were brought up once more, and manifested in the form of a fiery aura. I haven't seen him like this in a while. |

I begin setting up the sentries and once done, I head back to my workshop for aome well deserved relaxation. |
(it's an alert phase at the base. you can't relax just yet.) |
(Oh. Sorry. Re-doing my post.)
[Riella]
After setting up the sentries I head back to my room and grab my beam rifle, going to a good vantage point so that I can see all my sentries. I set up my Rancho-Relaxo and sip on some cider, watching over my sentries for if one gets destroyed or starts to run low on ammo. |

Why did I reveal myself there? I was foolish for having my pride blind my own judgement. Now, all I could do was wait for the inevitable punishment that would follow my mistakes. If only Lord Cazimir would be merciful, then I would be happy.
I led the surviving intrusion team out of the Frost Forest, where we mounted our horses to go back to the capital of the Empire.
Nathan
The next few hours remained quiet, and soon the alert phase was over. No signs of intruders coming back were detected on the motion scanners. HQ recalled all Fireteams back to the FOB, so I gathered Fireteam Nexus back together to RTB. Tomorrow, the Ambassadors will begin their diplomatic envoys to the nations of this world, Terrarum. I only hope that we will be received kind enough. If not, a full scale war may be inevitable.
It was almost dinner time, and so I quickly took off my armor at the Armory, and dressed in a clean uniform before heading out to the mess hall. |
[Riella]
I stay at my vantage spot, not wanting to leave sight of my sentries. I open a comm link to Nathan. "Hey Nathan. Mind bringing me some food? I'm watching over my sentries and don't want to leave them out of my sight. Going to the mess hall would mean doing so." |
