3rd divison
pretty sure the only people who pay any attention to it is Ale, Nastyeddie and I (and maybe sir???) |
|
|
the thing is, we celebrated FAR too early.
we had control of the game vs NYRB II in the first half.
our defence was literally on vacation during the 2nd half. |

USL is the equviliant of League 1 in England even though it should be the Championship.
Also @Eddie
I was sad but happy at the same time for Charlotte's performances. We played extremely well for our inaugural season, even going on a 12 (pretty sure) unbeaten run. Sad we missed out on the playoffs but things are really looking good for us. |
|
|
why don't you have pro/rel in the us? your population more than any other could sustain having it. |

No clue, I really wish there was.
But it's far to late at this point, the talent/wage gap is huge, and it would take atleast a decade for it to settle down. |

*too |

Also adding, last season our defence was horrible in the playoffs too.
also regarding dom and book talking about pro/rel
The MLS Is the most buisness like league in the world, its very money oriented. People buy MLS Franchises, where you get 30,000 people a game. Not a NASL Franchise, where you get 10,100 fans. It's a massive waste of money. It also hurts the careers of retired former european players knowing that they are playing in the american minor leagues lol. It's a stupid argument. However it would be a heck of a time seeing Pittsburgh get promoted lol. |

considering how large the USL P is we could get like 5 or 6 at least going |

I'd actually care for football in the US if they had promotion and relegation.

Branching off of what nasty said,
MLS wants owners and expansion teams to come running to them. How do they do that? A big part of it is no promotion/relegation. The lure for owners so invest in MLS and start up a team is to make a profit, and if teams run the risk of being relegated in a country where soccer is really not that popular in the domestic leagues, there is not a big profit, if any, to be made. Being relegated means losing the interest of thousands of fans, and as a result losing lots of money. |

"Being relegated means losing the interest of thousands of fans, and as a result losing lots of money."
newcastle united, leeds united, wimbledon, juventus, parma and a lot more clubs of that stature have been relegated and still maintained (clubs like leeds still do) massive amounts of support despite being relegated. nottingham forest are the first (and only) european champions to be relegated to the 3rd division and they still have a huge following too.
clubs would still have a lot of people who care about them, especially in the us. |

"clubs would still have a lot of people who care about them, especially in the us."
If by a lot, you mean almost nothing compared to other leagues here, then you're right, and that's definitely not what you're saying
Highest MLS rating this season was ~500K viewers on a Sunday
For reference, an NFL game got 27.4 million viewers on a Thursday
You have 0 idea what life is like here in the U.S. and the entire attitude toward soccer |

The fact that your reasoning for pro/rel is "population" is laughable
The NASL/USL doesn't even have a TV deal |
|
|
Also note how whenever I go to riverhounds games, tickets cost $20 and they sell a couple thousand, which is 90,000-120,000 in ticket sales for home games. Compare that to the MLS, triple the price, and the sales rise tenfold. Charging MLS ticket prices for a NASL/USL Game is Blashpemous because people just don't care, and you wont sell a lot of tickets. |

You're paying $20 for Riverhounds tickets? You're getting ripped off. I pay $22 for upper end line Dynamo tickets. Just bought tickets for the Sounders game at $26. |

Also, it's worth mentioning that the Dynamo have some of the highest prices in the league and that you could go across a few other MLS markets with the cheapest seats going as low as $15 |

Obviously these were from a third party, but tickets on stubhub were as low as $5 for Stanford - San Jose State football a couple years ago. Different sport, but I couldn't believe the deal that was lol |

USL tickets shouldn't be more than $5. In fact, FC Montreal, the reserve team for the Impact, has free admission. |
|
|
e_e stlfc tickets are 15-25 bucks |
