SHORT 1: The Corrupted.
Valias' leather boots crunched small, powdery rocks to dust as he explored the tunnel, holding his lantern high. His right hand kept a strong grip on his shortsword. Valias was somewhat of a handsome rogue, he was a wood elf, with blonde hair that seemed almost golden, a tan face, very pointed ears that he was very vain about, and a humorous face. Most of his body was covered by the leather armor he wore like a second skin, from his collar to his boots. Adorned with belts, seperate furs, and crests, Valias was seen as sturdy and adventurous. His companions followed closely behind him in the dimly illuminated cave, also wood elves, who went by Grathe and Kell. Kell was the shorter of the trio, with mousey brown hair, and similar leather armor to Valias'. Kell was medium sized, and wore regular peasant's clothing. He could not afford armor, as he was a new companion to the others. Grathe wielded a broadsword, while Kell a oak bow and a set of iron arrows. They were very silent in the cavern, blue lichen growing on the walls dimly helping illuminate the cavernous region.
Finally, nervous Kell had to speak.
"Erm...I've forgotten what we were looking for, again." He squeaked, quite pale. Kell obviously frightened easily. "We've been paid by the Captain of Xilregard to find the dratted Conjuror who summoned the Corrupted to raid the village." Replied Valias boredly. Kell had often asked this question throughout the journey, just to break the silence. It was very irritating. Almost instantly, however, Valias stopped in his tracks, Grathe and Kell walking a few steps forward, then standing stock still. "We're not alone." Valias whispered, blowing out his lantern. "Look." He croaked, pointing a gauntleted hand to a distant torchlight. Kell instantly pulled his bow out from his sling, and nocked it with an arrow. Grathe silently slid out his broadsword, followed by Valias. "I'll take a look ahead." Grunted Grathe, crouching down and inching forward towards the torchlight. Kell followed Valias into a cavern nook, and they watched Grathe move forward, inching slowly. Seconds seemed to turn into hours for the two. Finally, Grathe gave them the O.K. sign with his thumb. They moved forward and ducked behind a stalagmite instantly as the cavern rumbled and rocks rained from the ceiling, stalactites shaked pecariously on the roof. Kell paled and began to whimper, but Valias clamped a hand over his mouth and shushed him. The cavern continued to rumble, until a roaring beast emerged from the darkness, flinging itself at Grathe. The frightened Wood-Elf yelped and swung his broadsword at the beast.
"What is that?!" Kell tried to shriek from underneath Valias' gauntlet. "A corrupted. I hoped we wouldn't be spotted." Valias whispered, watching grimly. "We have to save Grathe!" Kell croaked, watching his companion being thrashed by the horrible beast. "No. We can't fight that thing. We have to kill the conjuror, so the beasts will return to their uncorrupted self, they look like corrupted orcs.
Kell's eyes widened, he was deathly afraid of orcs. "In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was afraid of everything." Thought Valias grimly.
"Conjuror, boys? Do you mean me?"
Both the Wood-Elves whirled around to see an eccentric looking figure hooded in a sun-yellow robe. It had a red circle in the center and an ox skull, representing the art of conjuration. The adventurers were speechless, unable to even notice Grathe's brave death and the lumbering of the corrupted orc to the side of the conjuror. Kell took notice and was so paled, he was marble white.
"Well, I'll end this quickly for you." The Conjuror ambled happily, raising his hands, and his freakishly muscular minions swarmed over the two of them.
So, what did you think? Rainguard so boring now?
