Metalcore is on the line between metal and hardcore, so debate springs up about whether it is metal or hardcore. Some people say it's metal, some say it's hardcore, and some say it comes down to individual bands. I'd like to hear people's opinions on this. Is metalcore just metal, is it just hardcore, does it come down to individual bands, or can it be both simultaneously? Please share your opinions.

Metalcore is a sub-genre of punk, along with all -core genres.

I think it comes down to individual bands, since some are more hardcore influenced, and some are more metal influenced.

from what i know, the industry generally considers it metal, but metalheads themselves think they can "disown" it because it's "emo" or something

The industry is very weird with its naming. Like I said, I think it comes down to individual bands, and what influenced them more. The first metalcore bands were hardcore bands with metal influences, and more recent bands are metal bands with hardcore influences. You get what I'm trying to say?

i do, but while there are some parts of the industry that don't make any sense at all, i do like to use a more objective definition; honestly, though, i don't know about how the industry grades metalcore and just evaluating the individual bands could be best

"I think it comes down to individual bands, since some are more hardcore influenced, and some are more metal influenced." That's as may be, but they're still punk bands since metalcore in itself is a punk sub-genre. "from what i know, the industry generally considers it metal, but metalheads themselves think they can "disown" it because it's "emo" or something" They disregard it because the fanbase consists of a lot of scene kids. I don't disown it at all because some of my favorite bands are metalcore.

Yea. Fun fact though, metalcore was originally a term for what we now call crossover thrash. If you don't know what crossover thrash is, Municipal Waste are an example of crossover thrash, to describe it, thrash metal with a bit more hardcore influence than normal thrash metal.

I know, but the word "metalcore" itself was originally used to describe bands that would now be called crossover thrash.

Did You Know? Metalcore is a subgenre of Rock
Enderman704

It's actually a subgenre of a subgenre of a subgenre, which means it itself is not directly a subgenre of rock.

It's also just a theory, meaning it has not been proven. I'm content to say that I don't know, and I'll ask the Good Lord when I get the chance. He'll tell me.

Difference is, we have observed gravity and know it exists through everyday interaction. The reason gravity is a theory is because we cannot accurately describe how or why it works.

"you always take us seriously, as you should, we're both very serious individuals" it's more or less you take me seriously when I'm being post-ironic.
