The following is a list of court etiquette and protocol, which is to be followed when in the presence of the court. This post will be separated into parts, based on their category. To start, we will begin with seating: SEATING ETIQUETTE: -When the Emperor or Empress enters a room, all those sitting must stand up and bow, and must not sit down until given permission by either of those said. -When the Emperor or Empress STANDS in a room, all those sitting must stand. -When in a sitting room, only if each person of the following ranks have taken a set, may people of the next rank down take a seat: 1. The Emperor and Empress 2. Princesses 3. Princes 4. Duchesses 5. Dukes 6. Marquises 7. Marquis 8. Countesses 9. Counts 10. Baronesses 11. Barons DINING ETIQUETTE: - Everyone will stand behind their chairs until the Emperor and Empress have taken a seat. - No one shall leave the dinner table unless given permission by His or Her Majesty. - Dinner is NOT over until His Majesty wish for it to be over. - While seated at the dinner table, people of the highest rank should be seated directly to the sides or in front of the Emperor. - You must only eat what is on the menu, you cannot make up any food choices for yourself! SPEAKING OR ADDRESSING ETIQUETTE: -DO NOT ADDRESS HIS MAJESTY FIRST! You must speak to a member of the Imperial Family or His Majesty' Aide-de-Comp to ask if you may speak with His Majesty. - All persons of Grandlumiere are to refer to His Majesty as, "Your Majesty," "Sire," and "His Majesty." - People with the rank Imperial Family are to be referred to by 'Monsieur' or 'Madame' - Nobles are to be referred to by their title, such as Duke/Count etc, or their style, such as Your Grace/Lordship. When speaking about them, they are to be referred to by their court title, such as Marquis d'Utrecht, Duke d'Anvers etc. BALL ETIQUETTE: - Women DO NOT ask men to dance! Men must ask women to dance. - Those not dancing should keep to the edges of the room. - Do not walk into people on purpose to make them stop dancing! CARRIAGE ETIQUETTE: - If you are an Imperial or a Noble, DO NOT DRIVE A CARRIAGE! It is below your rank! - Do NOT drive the carriages inside a building! - White carriages are for Imperial Family use only! Brown carriages are for the Nobility. - Only people invited by His Majesty my ride in a carriage with him. - DO NOT INTERRUPT HIS MAJESTY'S CARRIAGE! This means no bumping into it, ramming it, trying to get inside it, and standing in front of it. - DO NOT STAND ON TOP OF A CARRIAGE! MEETING ETIQUETTE: - Always greet the Emperor before you sit down. You must go up to the podium and bow before him saying, "Bonjour, Votre Majest Imperiale." Or something of that nature. - DO NOT SPEAK UNLESS YOU ARE GIVEN PERMISSION TO! - You must ask the First Minister if you may address your idea(s) to the court. - When addressing the court, you face the seats, not the First Minister and the Imperials. - All must stand for the National Anthem. You salute the Anthem, not bow to it. MISCELLANEOUS ETIQUETTE: - Always knock before you enter a room, even if there is no door! - A man must always give up his seat for a woman of the same rank or higher. - People must always be dressed in court clothing! This includes: 1. Powered wigs 2. Shaved faces 3. Appropriate clothing (AKA clothing from the EoG store) You will not be let in the Palace without wearing the proper attire!
