The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a secretive dirty "trade deal" that threatens our jobs, our money, our health, and our rights. Here are the reasons how.
One of the main concerns about TPP is IPs. Yes, there are many big IPs such as Star Wars, Naruto, James Bond, Mario, etc. However, the TPP plans to increase the copyright duration. Normally, in a world where TPP hasn't taken effect yet, or doesn't exist at all, Star Wars would become public domain 50 years after George Lucas, the creator of the franchise, dies/gets killed/murdered/whatever, and the copyright wasn't renewed. However, if the TPP passed, then Star Wars can take 70 years to become public domain without copyright renewal! Not only this goes for Hollywood franchises, but also single books, book series, TV shows, animation from around the world, including anime, manga, perhaps even radio-based works. This would mean that you might never live long enough to see One Piece become public domain if the creator dies and its copyright doesn't get renewed for 70 years.
The second is rights. The US is based on that, and among other things, and it is why the US has kept afloat for centuries. This may sadly change soon, if the TPP passes. We have the right to jailbreak, but it will soon become illegal, and it will frustrate those trying to keep it legal. The TPP ignores human rights violations and will reward countries for that. We have the right to make parodies, but this will be null once the TPP passes, which can EFFECTIVELY put an end to YouTube Poops, and the anime abridging business.
Third, health. Nowadays, we have access to clean food, and clean water (most of the time), but guess what? It will be harder to inspect food conditions once the TPP passes. Hazardous, spoiled imported food will have more opportunities to make their way to stores, and it can hospitalize more people. And what's that? TPP will jack up the prices of affordable medicine and medical healthcare? CRAP! Well, looks like I might not live up to beyond 70, or 40.
Lastly, JOBS. A job is essential to not living in your mom's basement as a grown-up adult, or living in a van down by the river like Matt Foley rolling up d00bies and selling them as your only income, but do you know that the TPP can threaten more American jobs than the NAFTA did? It can give a free pass to offshoring US jobs to low-wage countries, and potentially costing the ability to
Did you notice that you can be booted off the internet for petty copyright infringement once the TPP passes? And did you notice that you can go to jail for cosplaying publicly/posting fanart of copyrighted works (I really hope the clause that makes it illegal and is removed wasn't just hidden...)?
We have defeated SOPA, ACTA, PIPA, CISPA in the past, but we have to stop the TPP quick! We have lost to NAFTA before, but we will not lose this time! Tell your representatives and Senators to say, "When Congress gives you TPP, don't support TPP. Make Congress take TPP back! Get mad! I don't want your damn TPP, what the hell am I supposed with this?! Demand to see Congress' manager! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the TPP! I’m gonna get the engineers to invent a combustible TPP that burns your house down!"
