Hey LikeAJD, this is something I personally really want to do. Unfortunately the software we used for the forums hinders us from making changes to it. I remember a while ago Riot Games had the same issue: Lots of people had great ideas for their forums, but they their software prevented them from making worthwhile additions. They ended up scrapping their forums for something totally new. We'd likely have to do something just as drastic. Needless to say that's a big project to take on (and one that's on the radar, I might add). So while we'd really like to do cool stuff like this, it's a long way out. |

Was just about to post a new idea that is directly related to this, however- I don't feel it deserves it's own thread.
In addition to all the features in the OP, users should be allowed to make it so their posts don't bump the thread.
There are times when I would like to respond to a user in a thread that I do not support because it is off-topic- without having to send them a private message.
Like when I'm responding to a user in a WNTS thread. |

This one's actually really detrimental for a few reasons. Bumping is basically spam. It doesn't add anything to a thread aside from forcibly putting it on the first page. As a result the first page is usually full of threads that people bump a lot rather than quality threads. Then when you actually look inside a thread you have to sift through all of the "support" and "bump" posts to find the meat.
All of those problems can be solved by having upvote/downvote on threads and sorting with a function of time, rating, and number of responses from people other than the OP. People can just upvote instead of spamming support, bumping becomes (correctly) worthless, and the forum basically moderates itself.
I'd really like to make a system like this but it'd require us to rewrite our forums. Like I said, it's a long way off =\ |
