Once you reach the rank of Police Officer after finishing your probationary you'll be able to select a division out of; traffic enforcement unit, detective bureau or the emergency service unit.
With each division comes responsibility, respect, and progression. Although New York City is quite rough, unsafe but venturous place, it doesn't mean you cannot for fill your career to the maximum. Joining a division will increase your chance of promotion and even taking your commanding officer examination which will be available to you some point as a Sergeant with the New York City Police Department.
As a Police Officer to reach the role of Sergeant, you'd have to of; served with the NYPD for at least a week, obtain leadership qualities and dedication, be instructive but fare and have two recommendations by two commanding officers. Promotional events take place every two to three weeks and hardly any candidates are likely to be selected. You'll be given an interview, a two day leadership course as an acting Sergeant and then to be given a final score.
As a Sergeant to reach the role of Lieutenant, you'd have to of; served with the NYPD as a Sergeant for at least two weeks, achieved leadership abilities and proof of dedication, proven of manageable talents, and have four recommendations by four commanding officers. This promotional events isn't scheduled but appears to happen every so often. You'll be given an interview, a two day NYPD management course and on a passing score be commended by the Chief of Department. |
