You listen to the sounds of your friends chattering joyfully about the Fatherland, and boast about their superiority over the Russian, but the chattering slowly fades away in a quite peculiar manner. You peek up to see what's going on, what's so shocking, all your friends quickly hushed each other to look at. A burning Panzer II. Possibly from the recent combat patrol. Multiple holes can be seen to its sides, with fire still burning violently from the commander's cupola. You're not sure if anyone got out of it, but you try not to think about it. Suddenly, the Halftrack comes under fire from a nearby building. The squad leader opens the rear door, and you jump down on the wet, muddy ground below. Partisans had fortified the nearby village. The squad leader orders you to flank right alongside 2 more men, while he and the half-track provide suppressing fire. You can follow his orders or stay.

I decide to follow the orders of the squad leader.

You ran for it to the right, where there was a hedge and a ditch. You hit the dirt just as the partisans spotted you and started firing in your direction. You were pinned down. But you spot to the right, there was a clearing where you can crawl through, but that would leave you exposed. Crawl right through the hedge or clearing?

I decide to carefully begin to crawl through the hedge

Under heavy enemy fire, you try to crawl your way through the hedge itself. Twigs, branches and insects went across your face more than one time, but you made it through. And the enemy doesn't suspect a thing. Soon, your comrades followed you in your footsteps, and you made it into a house. Peeking out, you can clearly see the machine gunner. You might be able to get him from her, but it's a dodgy shot. Your men only have SMGs, but they might be of use inside the house, suppressing the MG for the half-track to move up. Your choice.

We decide to bunker up inside the house and see what happens

You kicked opened the door and your comrades moved in. Quietly. You were hidden in darkness, guns pointed at the partisans. The enemy machine gun fired without stoppage. But suddenly, the gun stopped firing. The machine gunner is pulling back, because his MG could not match the intensity of the half-track's MG42. As the partisans ran out back, your comrades opened fire, surprising them. Most died before they reached the second house, including the machine gunner. Only a few partisans remained in that second house. Not long after that, a row of 4 men walked out, waving a white flag and hands on their heads. The squad leader took them prisoner, and sent them back to field HQ, where they will be interrogated. You can get on the half-track, or continue through the houses on foot.

You decide to enter the half-track. On the way to it, though, you spot something else up ahead, at the town hall. Looked like an anti-tank gun. You stop. Get on the half-track anyways, or investigate the town hall?

We decided it best to cautiously approach the town hall

You informed the half-track driver, and they pulled back, out of the town hall's sight. The rest of the men in there disembark and head up the left side of the street on foot, while you and your comrades took the right. As you moved up, it was clear that there was someone in the town hall. You think for a second. Maybe it's partisans. But maybe it's just civilians. Either way, there are two options: Kick down the door or grenades through the window.

We kick down the door

As you moved up and got into position, your squadmates did the same. On the other side of the road, the squad leader understands your intentions, and does the same on his side. As you kick open the door, the partisans inside were taken by surprise. Some weren't able to pick up their guns. Without hesitation, your comrades opened fire, as the partisans did not wish to surrender. As the room was cleared, you heard sustained gunfire on the squad leader's side. Assist or investigate the room you're in?

You and your comrades took positions on the door linking the town hall together. As you kick down the door, you entered the conference room, where partisans were still trying to run from all the guns, with crates of rather old wine on their hands. Your comrades shot them, but some managed to escape. Leave them or pursue?

You left Otto with the rifle behind as you and 2 other submachinegun-wielding comrades pursue the partisans. The partisans, one by one, collapsed onto the mud, creating puddles of blood. Upon returning, you realize you have a perfect chance of throwing grenades through the windows and killing the Russians that way. Grenades or return to Otto?

You close in on the windows, as you pull out your grenades. Your comrades, on to your plan, pulled out their grenades too. On the count of 3, you hurled the grenades through the windows, resulting in loud explosions. The gunfire ceased. Looking back at the retreating partisans you shot, you spot one which was wounded, trying to crawl away. You move towards him. Capture or shoot?

You grab him by his shirt and dragged him back to the squad leader, who then, sent one of his men to escort the partisan back to HQ for "questioning". You then return to HQ, where you can now do what you want.

#180292725Friday, December 25, 2015 3:53 AM GMT

You ask Otto, but he refuses. The squad leader's got better things to do. The machine gunner, Schlucke, would like to give the rifle a try, and so does Maxis, the ammunition carrier for the MG. You walk back to the Field HQ, to the makeshift firing range they set up outside. You give them your rifle, and some ammo. Now, you give them a target.

The machine gunner took the first shot. His training proved to hinder his aim, as machine gunners are trained to saturate an area with sustained fire, not to be precise. The first 2 shots missed by a country mile, but the third one managed to clip the Eagle's wings. Now, whose turn is it?
