(Doctor as in the main character of Doctor Who.)
And I can't understand for the life of me why. |
|
|
It would be so different - as long as it was still good, ay man. |
|
|
|
i support a female doctor
would bring something new to the show
because well
an old fart in a box is a bit overdone

But aren't they fans of a show that pretty much thrives on change? |
|

@Yukari
Oh god, that? Eh, my problem with her is not that she's black, but that all the actors are too damn old to be portraying the characters. |
|
|
shes been described as white in the books and in every movie she's white... you can't just change the decade old story like that

@Yukari
Sure, it's quite clear that J.K Rowling's vision was for her to be white, what with her having massive control over the movies, including the casting. However, does it really matter? So long as the essential personality and character of the, er, character remain, does something as superficial as race really matter?
Of course, if she turns out to be a really bad actress and a mockery of the character, then that will be a different story. |
|
|
@Yukari
She's a fictional character based on fantasy. It's not a misrepresentation to change her race because she's not a real person. |
|
|
no idea why
I don't watch or really like the show myself |

"But aren't they fans of a show that pretty much thrives on change?"
That's the irony.
"shes been described as white in the books and in every movie she's white... you can't just change the decade old story like that"
Apparently there actually hasn't been any records of her in the book being described as white, just as smart, buck teeth, and bushy hair.
The movie statement is correct.

@super
For a stage play, not in the actual books |

@goshi
false, read the prisoner of azkaban.
or look it up.
@everyone else
race isn't superficial and yes it does matter, she's basically destroying the character and also supporting the destruction of it

I don't care if its a female or a male. |

@Yukari
I do not see why race matters so much. I just fail to see it at all. |

"false, read the prisoner of azkaban.

I've recently been re-reading the series and I'm on the fifth book, I don't recall any decriptions.
When I looked it up, it's just results repeating the same things I've said. Fifth page of Google so far.
Either way, this is what the author says:

If you mean the "white face" part, it's indicating fear. Being as white as a ghost. The setting of the scene was when they were trying not to get caught while saving Buckbeak.

@goshi iirc the context was her peeking from behind a tree and also black people cant turn white they just turn a different shade of brown

"iirc the context was her peeking from behind a tree and also black people cant turn white they just turn a different shade of brown"
Of course. I'm not being against or for the whole "black Hermione" deal, I'm just pointing out it was never race specific. She could be Asian for all I care.
