I can only wonder who is, and if they are occasionally watching what is going on in the forum communities. There are some gray areas to the rules, and many of us are assuming what's within them.
Looking at one of the last points in the rules of Off-Topic,
"Moderators may periodically post temporary rules when an inappropriate topic or meme flares up."
It would be great if we know when these rules are in place (such as last month with Star Wars spoilers). Maybe a separate sticky for them?

And, in all honest and due respect, please detail bans a bit more.
I've been banned for ridiculous things in the past, and what I've said made no sense with the "moderator note".
I really do try not to get banned anymore, I think I've gotten warnings about 5 times in 2015 though, then again, I do have over 44,000 posts on this account.
But seriously, please detail the moderators note a bit more, if you can, because banning us and not telling us why isn't going to help at all, it doesn't really teach us anything if we do not know what we get banned for.

but what i'd like to see are the mods like interacting with ot a little bit more, possibly going to ot parties and such? (then again a huge crowd would be following said mod, dont know how to "fix" that)

Also, it would be great if the moderators could sticky if there is a big tragic event (for example, the November Paris Attacks), and tell us if we would be allowed to discuss it or not.
I know "real life tragic events" is a rule on the forums, but not every single bad event is that inappropriate.
Also, since politics is now allowed to be discussed (if I recall correctly, I'm not too sure), perhaps a way to discuss that more freely as well?
Since it's politics, of course there will be probably be arguments, but of course some political discussions are inappropriate for the forums (stuff like pro-life, and all that).
So yeah, I'm glad the moderators are trying to do better!

As long as changes happen st some point in the near future, I will be satisfied by any improvement.
I see it as the team does not have a complete understanding of what goes on in these communities. If some respectable members could be interviewed on common issues there would be less problems. Similar to the interns over summer, some were active on the forums and could have given feedback on common issues.

Sarcasm would be detectable if we had some forum emoticons, we have to rely on text faces which are frowned upon in this community and never used because you would be flamed at for using them.

If we could stop the hoards of alternate accounts who's intentions are to deliberately break the rules there would be more peace among us. You see account made yesterday posting inappropriate content most of the time as the owners know it takes a few seconds to make a new one. This is the root of our problems.

also lately a lot of us have been getting warnings for things that are definitely not against the rules and have always been allowed

except sarcasm isn't always necessarily actually against the rules.
also stop with the selective moderation, it would be nice to have some strict and solid guidelines within your moderation team.
my "post here to be rated from 1-10" thread was deleted, however an active one that still goes on with over 7 pages didn't get moderated at all. in fact, that thread contains detailed descriptions and insults, whereas mine was merely numbers. |
