you can only do this if you've had windows 10 for less than a month. Steps: 1. go to Settings 2. go to Update and Security 3. go to recovery tab 4. you will see something saying "Go back to using Windows 7" or "Go back to using Windows 8.1". 5. Click the "Get started" button below it. 6. you will be asked a few reasons of why you are switching back. enter whatever you want and click "Next" 7. you will be told what you need to know about switching back. click "Next" 8. you will see a message of Microsoft thanking you for trying windows 10. Click "Go back to previous Windows" 9. Your PC will restart. Once you restart you will see a message saying "Restoring your previous version of Windows..." Don't touch your PC while it is saying this! This can take from 2 minutes to 5 hours, depending on the speed of your PC. 10. When it's done, your PC will restart again. You will then be greeted by the startup screen of your previous version of Windows. 11. If you're able to get to the desktop, then it worked. if you've had windows 10 for more than a month, you're out of luck (although you're welcome to see if you still have the option)

What if the desktop/laptop you bought was already pre-installed with Windows 10?

@IhateMcCramer oh ok @Vent You'll have to remove the operating system and install Windows 7 or 8.

Then it's time to go on The Pirate Bay...

@vent I'd recommend using a legit copy. Last time I used a pirated copy of Windows to install on an actual PC, I couldn't activate it (even with the key) and it was only usable for 60 days. Watch out.

It is much simpler to save your data(Which should have been performed regardless), format your HDD, and simply reinstall Windows. This will also ensure that "leftovers" do not remain.

@agn Going into settings and clicking a button is much easier than going through the trouble of formatting the disk and reinstalling the operating system. Besides, what if you want to keep your data?

"Besides, what if you want to keep your data?" Then buy an external HDD, 1 TB is about $60 to $70 dollars.
