In short, it's because of the simple lack of candidates. People dislike Sanders, generally, for being a socialist and endorsing an extremely high tax on Americans and having government control over most things, such as free college. Because of this, people who rule out Sanders, but are still Democratic, will vote for Hillary since O'Malley is pretty much out of the race and is solely campaigning for speaker fees at this point.
