God gave us a chance to repent and be forgiven. All that people have to do is accept it. It's free. Isn't that merciful? |
|
|
If you read the Koran you will find it literally says to go out an kill people in the name of Islam.
Big difference.. |

No, it isn't merciful, let's replace God with Obama, and then you call him merciful.
Obama gave us a chance to repent and be forgiven. All that people have to do is accept it. It's free. Isn't that merciful?
Do note that if you don't accept it Obama will send you into a NSA facility where you'll be tortured until you die.

if you don't accept life you accept death.
it's a simple fact.
if you choose not to live you by default choose to die. |
|
|
It also say's that God is just; how would be be just if he didn't punish those who break his law? |

It says to kill people in the name of Islam if you're at war with them, if you're in a state of jihad, but I doubt you've read the Al Qu'ran.
You do realize that God commands infidels to be killed correct?
Deuteronomy 17
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

So, you consider Obama merciful in this situation then? You would worship him? |
|

Obama is a human elected official.
God is, well, God..
It's not really comparable. |

That was when they were capturing the promised land in the old testament.

no he doesn't
the old testament was meant for the jews back then, there were no christians around during the old testament
it is true we accept the old testament for inspiring but when jesus came he told us not worry about those old laws and we follow his teachings in the new commandments
sometimes athiests can be dumb |

If God was just then the punishment would be just, but it isn't, a just punishment is equal to the crime, but being tortured for eternity for feeling lust, isn't just.
You must ask yourself the question, why is it that in the bible they repeat so much that God is just? In h*rry p0tter they don't say herry is just over and over do they? Why? Because it's quite clear that he's just, and his actions speak for themselves, but in the bible Gods actions speak against being just, or moral. |

"no he doesn't"
That is a commandment from God, so yes, he does.
"the old testament was meant for the jews back then, there were no christians around during the old testament"
Please do quote the verse in which it states that the old testament doesn't apply.
"it is true we accept the old testament for inspiring but when jesus came he told us not worry about those old laws and we follow his teachings in the new commandments"
Quote the verse which he says that, in fact Jesus calls a tribe hypocrites for not following the old testament, why would he does this if the old testament doesn't apply?
"sometimes athiests can be dumb"
Sometimes, but not this time. |
|
|
Tell me, and be honest.
If someone committed a crime against you and it was against the law, punishable by death, and you could pick whether they were given mercy, would you offer them it? |
|
|
"That is a commandment from God, so yes, he does."
but a commandment of jesus says otherwise
we follow his teachings
"Please do quote the verse in which it states that the old testament doesn't apply."
Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23–25; Ephesians 2:15

no, this is the time |

"but a commandment of jesus says otherwise

So Jesus's word trumps Gods? Quite interesting.
"Please do quote the verse in which it states that the old testament doesn't apply."
Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23–25; Ephesians 2:15
Romans 10:4
That this verse abolishes the law is one of the most popular mistakes made today. "End" here is the Greek telos and means goal. It doesn’t mean to cease or bring to a close. He is the goal to which the law brings you. The purpose of the law is to make you more like Jesus.
Galatians 3:23–25
Well, this does bring up an issue doesn't it, it seems quite clear in it's statements, however, in Matthew 5:18
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished."
And clearly not all his been accomplished, this just brings up another inaccuracy and issue in the bible.

Depends purely on the crime, if he stole something then of course not, however if he committed genocide then I would not show him mercy.
Interesting how God commits genocide and yet no one seems to care. |

"Denying it again him debateyou?"
Denying it again him? What..?
"how convient"
If you made a coherent statement perhaps it would be. |
|
|
denying what is right
just stop
stop thinking that you are always right |
|
|
Besides, who are you to decide what the punishments are for crimes?
Better yet, what is right and what is wrong? What do you base your world view on?
Pop culture? That changes in a flash. Personal belief? That means that there is nothing universally true and therefore no right or wrong.

"denying what is right"
You haven't established that you're right.
"just stop"
I refuse.
"stop thinking that you are always right"
I'm not always right, but most of the time I am. |
|
|
but i am right
you are not
most of the time you aren't right |

"Besides, who are you to decide what the punishments are for crimes?"
What is a justifiable punishment for said crimes is often argued and debated about, I'm not the one who makes these choices, I'm simply one of many people who help make them.
"Better yet, what is right and what is wrong? What do you base your world view on?"
Right and wrong are subjective, however they have an objective basis, they're derived from our emotions, such as sympathy and empathy, among many others.
I base my world view on evidence.
"Pop culture? That changes in a flash. Personal belief? That means that there is nothing universally true and therefore no right or wrong."
Morality is derived from our emotions, it has an objective basis, however it is subjective, in essence.
There is no universally true right, or wrong, it's all subjective, all based on our emotions.
I do hope you're not going to act like morality comes from religion, because that is truly a unjustified, and unsubstantiated view.
Are we going to start talking about philosophy? I must say I'm not the biggest fan of philosophy. |
|
|
"I'm angry. My emotion of anger gives me the right to attack you!"
If you disagree with this you believe that pop culture(or the majority's view) is the source of right and wrong. |
