Disregarding your assignment, it depends on the type of mathematical concepts that you are working with. Equations in elementary "Algebra" differ significantly from groups proposed in Group-Theory.

I'm great at finding the stuff for the equation, but not for intercepts, never got taught that.

What is an intercept? It is a point on the x or y axis. The x-axis always has y = 0 and the y-axis always has x = 0. All coordinates look like this (x,y) for the x axis it will be (x,0) For the y axis it will be (y,0) To solve the problem set the variables in the equation to 0 depending on what you want to find. Isolate y 3x - 6y = 12 6y = 3x-12 y = 0.5x - 2 set x to 0 y = (0.5) x (0) - 2 y = -2 when x = 0 (0,-2) is the y axis. Isolate x 3x - 6y = 12 3x - 6(0) = 12 3x = 12 x = 4 When y = 0, x = 4 (4,0) is the x axis.

"Isolate y 3x - 6y = 12 6y = 3x-12 y = 0.5x - 2 set x to 0" could you not just skip right to setting x to 0 instead of isolating the variable

They will need to isolate variables for harder problems like finding the inverse of a function. Find the inverse of f(x) = 9e^5x y = 9e^5x switch x and y x = 9e^5y x/9 = e^5y ln(x/9) = 5y y = [ln(x/9)]/5 f^-1(x) = [ln(x/9)]/5
