go ahead why should the sword community never make new sword systems never find new kinds of weapons never make changes to the linkedsword never progress into something other than what it is now?

Because that is the glory of swords, being extremely boring and basic. Don't worry though there are secret sword arts that you can learn!!! I am truly a king among little girls

I find default swords with classic animations more fun since I'm used to it Swordfighters, especially good ones/ones that have been playing for a long time, are used to certain hitboxes on the players and hurtboxes on the swords and practice intricate/precise applications of stuff like swordjumping and timing lunges, so changing to different sword systems could throw that off completely, plus even if the hitboxes and hurtboxes are the same a lot of the previously mentioned techniques have visual cues and changing or removing them would also throw people off, heck even changing the noise could throw people off

Cus they cant? Unlike guns, you don't have normal archetypes you can use for swords. For guns you have the basic ones that all groups have: pistol, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper. For swords? Not so easily. What, change the time to lunge from a fraction of a second to a full second and call it another sword? Have a dagger? Difference between guns and swords is guns are more distinguishable. You'll most likely 9/10 times find a pistol and/or assault rifle in most forts, shotguns and sniper rifles too. For example: swords, sure you'll have a dagger and linkedsword in one base, and a longsword and an axe in another. I love swordfighting as much as the next guy, but I think that swords should stay the same because they can't change at all.

@bomber, what about wings that make you move faster? heavy hats that allow you to moonwalk while classicing? packages that hide the location of hitboxes? hats that make noises? hats with sparkles or dynamic lighting? distracting outfits? do these not mess with player cues? do they not throw a wrench into the calculated metagame? why are these ok, while new weapon variations are not? @kyber, lets think up some 'archetypes' that most sword fighters would recognize. - linkedsword - fencing foil - classic brigand sword (might be treated as a middle ground between the two above) these could all use the same general lunging mechanics that we know and love, but provide a new spin on things that makes the game that much more interesting

Swords should change, custom swords would be amazing. I tried making some a while back, but I could never get ROBLOX's animation to work the way I wanted to in my scripting, if anyone wants to explain how to do it better than the wiki does, please do and I'll continue my development. But onto the question with a more focused attitude, sword clans need change. It's honestly the one problem with sword clans above all else, they cling to dying and over-used ideals. This doesn't necessarily reflect on swords as weapons though, honestly it's a part of the clans. After being in TDS, SF, and RB, the three best sword clans ever, in that order (rip), I can say every other clan could more or less fit into an archetype already set by them, offering no real difference in clan fun.

I'm positive none of those things are okay with most of the serious swordfighting community, think of it this way, it'd be like telling a chess player to play chess but changing every piece's role and starting position and forcing him to play that new game, it may be a type of chess but the dude's gonna want to stick with normal chess because that's what he does

Oh, I actually, I'll amend something I said. There's been one sword clan that doesn't fall into the mold that TDS, SF, and RB created, and that is Rouge Blades. That clan was amazing in every way, and really drew out a unique clan, so much so that I wish they'd come back or another clan took their ideas and made a new clan with it.

the blood & iron sword system is arguably better than linkedswords, as you can actually aim with your mouse, parry, and block (i think its a lot of fun. try it out and see what you think)

Plus, different body morphs/hats/outfits/sparkles/lighting don't change your hitboxes, so it won't throw swordfighters off, moonwalk-classic fusion is an accepted style and in general it's better to fight with heavier hats since lighter hats leave you with less control of the sword, the only issue would be wings that make you move faster that ain't cool

@inerva, fun fact... back in 2014 NFC re-colored their linkedsword. then people started complaining about how the new sword lagged (even though the only difference was the re-texture). after that, the update was reverted.

what about the mouselock speed update of 2013? that made a sizeable change in the metagame. why havent we attempted to preserve pre-2013 SFing? i thought SFing was all about being classic and not changing

Seasoned sword builder/scripter here, Bomber makes plenty of good points on why swords shouldn't change. Now, adding in my own experience to this subject, I'm simply going to say that it may be a bit of a challenge to balance correctly, without people complaining of course.

'I might make a version of the LinkedSword that uses that, thanks.' ehh i think i need to elaborate though roblox melee combat needs blocking to be even remotely interesting, but the trouble is that it's impossible to implement blocking without completely overhauling the swords - or at least i don't see how it would be possible to implement blocking when swords can simply penetrate shields then again, maybe i'm being too pessimistic... blocking could just reduce/eliminate damage taken and apply a stagger effect to the attacker or something. idk
