Eh...well, you have a point. It's just I disagree with any genre with the word "death" in it because it's all image and intentionally create music to attempt controversy to have media attention.

neither deathcore nor death metal are exclusively about death, gore, killing and controversial themes

@Raymond Chuck Schuldiner, one of the founders of death metal, despised the controvery that surrounded the genre. He was an animal lover and thought that other death metal bands were bringing negative attention to the genre. He named the genre death metal not to get attention, but because he wanted a word to describe the sound he created. You, my friend, have made a sweeping presumtion that is not true in all cases. Your statement implies that every instance is like this. I have pointed out a single counterexample, and as a result my next conclusion is that your statement must be false false.

@Vexull and Loyal: I know all of that, but today's death metal does all of that intentionally. Especially since deathcore came out. You have crap bands like Attila, Chelsea Grin and Suicide Silence, who are arguably the more mainstream death acts around this time, that are intentionally making music about subjects they know are completely controversial in nature. I'm not saying every deathcore/death metal band is the same, but it turned into crap over the years because the sub-genre pushed out all of the bands who wanted a heavier style and replaced them with front-runners who were in it for the image.

@Ray I'll agree that there are plenty of bands like that. You aren't completely wrong, but even today not every band like that. I would love to start a death metal band and I despise the controversial stereotypes surrounding it. I'm sure there's a real modern metal band between every few modern poser metal bands.

>dude, just because some of the bigger bands make bad music doesn't mean the entire genre could be considered bad That is true, but my point is the roots of the genre have been dug out and replaced with this false mentality of being 'edgy' to the point where negative attention is a good thing. The only difference is the negative attention is due to them intentionally trying to make people while instead of doing something new or different. I mean really, the only thing death metal has is being the reject of the metal genre. Why not use that to your advantage? Why waste that and squander among the lower tier of every concert? Deathcore just copies everything metalcore has, just with distorted vocals. That's why I can't stand it. I'm trying not to build a word wall out of this, but deathcore has a lot of things wrong with it. One, their lyrics are all about the same stuff. Death, murder, suicide, serial killers, society and what ever else they can get from Hot Topic for under $10.

>the only thing death metal has is being the reject of the metal genre. wtf death metal is easily one of the biggest and most appreciated metal genres >Deathcore just copies everything metalcore has, just with distorted vocals. no it doesn't lol >I'm trying not to build a word wall out of this, but deathcore has a lot of things wrong with it. One, their lyrics are all about the same stuff. Death, murder, suicide, serial killers, society and what ever else they can get from Hot Topic for under $10. dude i literally just said that's not the whole genre. maybe a few bands do, but nobody really takes them seriously. Generally bands who only write about that kind of stuff (unless they're telling a story) don't even take themselves seriously

Well, it depends on which era of Death Metal you're talking about. I'm talking about the modern death metal. Deathcore is a pretty far fetch. It's asking a lot out of the listener. If you're a devout death metal fan, you'll love deathcore. If you're like me who prefers heavy metal over death metal, it asks a lot. I'm not close minded to other genres or anything like that, but I look at the lyrics before anything else. I don't follow fanbases around, contrary to popular belief because if I did, I wouldn't be listening to half the crap I listen to now. It's just I can't take modern death metal seriously because of how it portrays itself. I know that's hypocritical considering how I listen to nu-metal and metalcore, but I have my bands that I listen to and can prove that wrong. I may not have found that ideal death metal/core band, but I know I might sometime.

If you want to hear a really good Death Metal band Ne Obliviscaris is pretty good. (I don't know what they are saying when they aren't doing clean vocals but they sound really good and they have some guy shredding some sort of violin like a guitar solo in a lot of songs) Some other pretty good ones(Not sure which ones are new but a few of them are part of the first four bands from Sweden to start melodic Death metal) Opeth (They alternate between alot of genres but they have quite a few Progressive Death metal bits in a lot of songs. The Grand Conjuration is a pretty good if you ever check them out) Insomnium Children of Bodom In Flames

I've just never liked black metal. It's entire conception was stupid. It was literally intended just to sing anti-religious sentiments. It's basically satire in musical form.
