The game should never have gone to overtime. USA's regulation goal was offside by at least a foot. Not to mention the several missed penalty calls that should have gone against the US (notably Kovar being cut by a high stick).
Now I know that the only reason the Czechs got into the semifinals last year was because of a reffing crapjob, but it's still depressing to see that this kind of officiating incompetence is still present in this tournament, and in sports in general. But what should we have expected from a tournament hosted by Russia?
Worst of all, TSN is going to endlessly praise the offside goal because Matthews scored it despite the fact that he was clearly offside. |
