READ : This is a post explaining the lore of the Metro universe, which is set in Post-apocalyptic Russia. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD* STORY : WORLD WAR 3 - In 2013 a massive but brief global exchange of nuclear warheads devastated the Earth, transforming it into a toxic dust bowl. Radiation either mutated or killed off life and made the planet unsuitable for humans. Even after many years the planet was still a dangerous place and exposure to the toxic air for a few minutes would be very lethal. It is unknown what happened to the rest of the world besides Russia, but what is well known is that many parts of the Earth were untouched by nuclear warheads. During the nuclear exchange citizens sought refuge in the Metro, which would shelter them until the planet was clean of radiation and monsters. 2033 - In 2033, 20 years after World War III, half of the population of Moscow were underground. People began making Metro-made weapons to battle both mutants and men. Inhabitants of the underground metro discovered a new type of species, called the Dark Ones. They were both hated and feared across the metro due to their powerful abilities and terrifying appearance. ****Following their discovery a man named Artyom was given the task to destroy them and did so, but later regretted launching a missile to destroy their nest.**** FACTIONS : Tri-Union of Tverskaya - The Tri-Union of Tverskaya is a faction that follows the ideology of the Germans during the 1930s-40s, and their main goal is to "cleanse the metro of the inferior". They have only one leader whose name is unknown but rules the Tri-Union with an iron fist. The faction also has a powerful but small military and they are currently at war with the Red Line, a communist faction. Red Line - The Red Line has the largest military, population, and territory in the whole metro. They follow the ideology of Communism and their story is very interesting. The faction came to be when a station spread its optimistic influence to other stations, and all of the stations came under direct control of the Red Line. They are currently at war with the Tri-Union of Tverskaya.
