This is the best idea I have ever seen on S&I, you have my absolute support!
You should get some kind of reward for this idea! |

@Noob
It's an idea for ability to embed scripted games of all kinds and difficulties that can be played with more than one person into gears, that would be called Place-in-the-Gear; essentially using a gear to create a Place within a Place.
Along with this OP is also suggesting this be possible for every type of Catalog item (not just gears) through a new type of function called the "vanity function" which these Place-in-the-Gears would be created from as well as the ability to buy different kinds of vanity functions that aren't just games but could also be little quirks, animations, flairs, etc you could add to the Catalog items you buy for your character to make them more unique (he had a specific rarity and random system called pool rotations that would encourage rebuying as well, and theoretically give ROBLOX another huge profit source, but to understand it you should check out the original post). Vanities would be segregated from the normal tool (have their own toolbox(es), their own tool) but would be built from the same tool that it came from (by that I think he means mesh-wise).
This in itself introduces very new concepts, such as the concept of playerscript, script that players bring into the games they play themselves through their Catalog items to alter the gameplay of themselves and others in a meaningful away, as well as add to their personality and the variety of their customization. As well as the concept of an incuberse, a theoretical workspace inside of a Place that would not directly effect or be directly effected by the outer workspaces, allowing for code to exist separately from other code but still be present in the same place, allowing these vanity functions to be possible but non-intrusive.
That's honestly as much as I can condense this entire thread. I hope it was helpful. |

Whoa I didn't even notice that. Nice catch.
I literally blanked out and forgot I was talking about myself XD I've been playing a lot of RP games though so I've been talking in the 3rd person a lot lately. |

@rend ya got me lost dude. thanks for trying though. |

@Noob
Let me try.
You know the game Murder Mystery 2, right? Well what if you could play a scaled down version of it if you bought an eligible gear, inside ANY PLACE YOU WANT (that allows gear) with AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU WANT? Actually, why not ANY game scaled down in ANY Place you want?
That is Place-in-the-Gear. Just keep in mind that's not the whole suggestion, but that is its centerpiece. |

@kudos you mean games within games? like the tic-tac-toe gear? |
|
ruin3DsJoin Date: 2013-10-20 Post Count: 1237 |
Actually it's more like places within places. If the tic-tac-toe gear's mini-game had the complexity of your average well-scripted ROBLOX Place then yeah.
Lol that'd be one tic-tactical-toe lmao XP |

@ruin so, a game inside a game? minigames? |
|
ruin3DsJoin Date: 2013-10-20 Post Count: 1237 |
Yep. Except the games wouldn't really be "mini". |
|
Noob3713Join Date: 2010-12-27 Post Count: 4079 |
big games inside games then? and hold on yo, what kinda games are we talkin? |
|
ruin3DsJoin Date: 2013-10-20 Post Count: 1237 |
Places. Scaled down. Imagine playing a murder mystery inside of any place you want and up to the WHOLE server could get in on it. Or freeze tag, or hide and seek, or maybe a mini RPG, or maybe even a wave survival. Countless possibilities, just like there are countless places, and they'd be scripted as if they were as complex as places. Except since they're embedded onto gears, they'd be portable. Portable Places. Place-in-the-Gears.
It takes the game out of the place and makes it portable in a nice gear format. Like the Nintendo Switch lol. |

yeah i dunno if im understanding this right. it just sounds like playing games that already exist yo. |
|
|
@Noob
L.
Let me put it this way: What if you could play a Murder Mystery inside Catalog Heaven by using a gear to start a match? That's Place-in-the-Gear. Now expand that to infinite possibilities for Place-in-the-Gears and that's basically what it is. |

@rage well catalog heaven is a monstrosity in itself yo. you ain't gonna get a cooperative game there. but bro why would ya need to port an already existing game into another one? there ain't no way that wouldn't break as much as possible. |
|
|
We aren't talking about literally bringing a place into another place, and I didn't mean Catalog Heaven specifically. It was just a general example.
Idk how else I can explain it to you. It's like a new type of gear where you script games, matches, etc into that gear and since you could take that gear anywhere you could play that game anywhere.
It's like giving your character the ability to start a mini game in any place they want. |
|
Noob3713Join Date: 2010-12-27 Post Count: 4079 |
@ragemick so, porting a game into a game. i dunno man that sounds like potential to break everything. and just saying bro, theres games you can play in which you dont need to buy something to play em. why not just use those? |
|
|
@Noob
Bro, not porting. Nothing's getting ported. This ain't the Trump-in-the-Gear.
Idk what's so hard to understand. They're gears. They're gears that you can play games with; multiplayer games, RPG games, fighting games, any kind of game. Stop overthinking it. That's literally all they are.
The only trick is that they would be made in a way that they can be played with in any place you can take that gear in. We're not getting into specifics. There's many ways this can be done, don't worry about exactly which way. |
