Yes i wish they had .obj support, but blender allows you to export stuff as a .mesh or something like that .fbt

3DSmax is better than Blender.
Blender has an awful interface and it's hard to do even the simplest things.
You should never start with Blender when learning to model or animate.

The interface is hard because you never learned it. im pretty sure all 3d modelers are like that. Also blender is free

Even my experienced friend had trouble using Blender
And this was coming from a well known scripter.

Scripting is not the same as modeling. And blenders interface is very costomizable. You and your friend should set some time to learn blender. Its really rewarding.

I've tried learning Blender, everything was just spread out from each other, not to mention the userface was extremely complicated to use. It took me 20 minutes just to find out how to texture something. Blender is NOT the choice to go with when learning to model.
It has a good converting system I hear though, which is something other modelers need.
