Holy crap, when people say this it makes me cringe. Well idk, other than the fact that you can localize game instances to give different teams dynamic experiences. Other than ability to make certain animations or events appear to one user. Other than the obvious, not getting your fort hacked the crap out of. I don't know. Filtering enabled is pretty useless if you are just going to make a medicore base that gets hacked in 8 seconds.

filtering enabled is not on by default; otherwise a bunch of old games would break.

It doesnt get your fort hacked. You said it yourself, thats enough reason to get it down.
