An open letter to the Emperor. At the end, there will be information if you wish to sign my petition and help assist in the deliverance of justice.
--
My Emperor;
Would you allow me, grateful as I am for the kind reception you once extended to me, to show my concern about maintaining your well-deserved prestige and to point out that your star which, until now, has shone so brightly, risks being dimmed by the most shameful and indelible of stains?
Unscathed by vile slander, you have won the hearts of all. You are radiant in the patriotic glory of our country’s complete devastation of the Grecian lands, you have presided over our population doubling in a week, the jewel that crowns this great time of labour, truth, and freedom. But what filth this wretched affair has cast on the name of the Empire. The Consul of Rome, Marcus Caninius Gallus, has criminalised me,- a supreme insult to all truth and justice. And now the image of Rome is sullied by this filth.
As they have dared, so shall I dare. Dare to tell the truth, as I have pledged to tell it, in full, since the normal channels of justice have failed to do so. My duty is to speak out.
And it is to you, my Emperor, that I shall proclaim this truth, with all the force born of the revulsion of an honest man. Knowing your integrity, I am convinced that you do not know the truth, for you would act. But to whom if not to you, the first magistrate of the country, shall I reveal the vile baseness of the real guilty parties?
At the root of it all, Consul Marcus Caninius Gallus - a corrupt degenerate that, by your own admission, had ignored your edicts time and time again. He had attempted to oust Tribunis Plebis Marianus by calling a tribunal election in the Plebeian Council - yet you had no wish for this to continue.
He has ignored a public vote, and not even just that - he ignored an exitui in the Senate that was tied.
I need say no more: let us seek and we shall find. The Consul is the first and the most grievous offender in the ghastly miscarriage of justice that has been committed.
But this letter could be considered long, my Emperor, and it is time to conclude it.
I accuse the Consul of Rome, Marcus Caninius Gallus, of being the diabolical creator of this miscarriage of justice and of defending this sorry deed, by all manner of ludicrous and evil machinations.
I accuse the same Consul of treason, retroactive violation of Lex Haeresis by violating your own word and ignoring your word - auctoritas, the epitome of law.
With my deepest respect, my Emperor.
Lucius Roehm
