There should be an option to begin composing a new message to someone within the Messages page instead of having to go to the person's profile and clicking Message.
An analogy I can make is Gmail.
There should be a create new message button and you type in the person's name you want to message, and based on your friend list it has an autodetect feature that can recognize the name you're beginning to type.
This feature could only apply to people on your Friend's list for simplicity. If you want to message someone not on your Friend's list you can do it the old fashioned way.
I just feel like this would make it easier to message your friends.

For longer messages, a PM is preferable to a chat.
I think the chat features should carry over to Messages - for uniformity and simplicity. |

Last Friday (not yesterday but the one before), one of the graphic editors said that they're updating the message page to make it look better and stuff on Twitch. So, I feel like something like this will end up being a part of that.

Yeah, but there's a limit for length of messages and it's in such a condensed format. I think the same features should carry over to Messages.
The idea could even expand to having the auto-detect feature for users on your Friend List, but then also function like Gmail in the sense that you can type any name you want, but if they're not on your Friend List (makeshift Contacts) then you just type it in manually with no auto-detect feature.
