A person passes both an interview and a physical test, for any of the low ranking positions (cabin crew, first officer, captain).
They then get added to a trello board which is liked below, and get ranked to trainee. They then have to complete and attend 5 flights before they receive their rank.
They do however have 3 strikes which stay with them for all their career. Any admin abuse, customer abuse or horrible mistakes, and a strike gets taken away. Reach 3 strikes and your suspended for a month.
