Despite not being a part of NATO, the Republic of China (Taiwan) had been recieving support from numerous NATO countries, especially the United States. US and Taiwanese naval forces in the Pacific had repelled previous Chinese invasions of the island, had been unable to Prior to the Flash, Taiwan was supposed to assist US Marine forces in invading the New Chinese Empire. However, this never happened due to Taiwan getting caught in the nuclear exchange between NATO and the ACMF in 2032.
The Taiwanese Republican Militia was formed in a post-Flash settlement near Keelung in 2043. Using scavenged police and army equipment, the TRM began expanding throughout the island, gaining support by assisting refugees with rebuilding the island, wiping out raiders, and exterminating mutants. With little resistance from other armed groups, by 2050 the island of Taiwan Taiwan had become a stabilized region in what was once the New Chinese Empire. In 2052, the Militia began gathering every boat they could find to form a makeshift navy and in November they set off to the Chinese mainland to reclaim lands lost since the Cold War. With the ACMF dissolved and the New Chinese Empire's military crippled, the mainland was concluded as being an easy target for the Taiwanese militia.
The TRM landed in East China in 2053 and quickly began building settlements along the coast. When they began moving north towards Hangzhou in 2055, the TRM encountered the remnants of the New Chinese Empire. Outnumbered by the former ACMF power, the militia was pushed back south in just two months. For the next three years, the militia would begin moving west, claiming rural land and engaging the NCE through hit-and-run tactics. The TRM began slowly taking NCE territories in the west and by 2063 most of western China was under their control. Throughout the rest of the 2060's to the late 2070's, the TRM began to push through mainland China, fighting the NCE using guerrilla tactics and gaining supporters. In 2077, the RoT began invading Shanghai, the NCE's last stronghold in China. After three months of pushing and being pushed back, the TRM finally defeated the NCE and took over mainland China.
After their victory over the New Chinese Empire's remnants, the Taiwanese Republican Militia created a new government, reunifying mainland China with the island of Taiwan under the "Republic of Taiwan". The RoT quickly began focusing on rebuilding the war-torn mainland. Restoration projects to restore pre-Flash cities across the mainland began around 2082. Shanghai, the new capital of the new Republic, was the first city to be restored in 2087.
In the 2090s, the Taiwanese government began pushing for a modernized navy and began promoting shipbuilders and trade companies across the country. In 2100, a small Taiwanese fleet made contact with the United States of America and the Civillian Defence Front in Hawaii. Trade began after three months, and the Republic of Taiwan began sending more traders
In 2115, the USA declared war on the PRT, and the RoT followed suit, sending a battalion of troops near the US-PRT border to assist the USA. On the US-PRT border, the Republic of Taiwan plays multiple roles. The armed forces patrol the border or the sewers, acting as an unofficial peacekeeping organization. Traders make up the bulk of can be found throughout Northside, mostly selling food and textiles to US citizens. There are unconfirmed rumors of the Republic of Taiwan sending officials to arm anti-PRT guerrillas near the border.
