Why do I get this error when I reference a mesh directly

I get this error when trying to use SpecialMesh for a mesh I uploaded as a mesh part: MeshContentProvider failed to process rbxassetid://id_here because Error reading mesh data: unknown version Is there something I have to do when exporting it?
