STAGE IV: MARCHING DRILLS Stage I, II and III have covered the basics that every person serving in the Royal Crown Army should know. Stage IV, however, will explain maneuvering and spacing in a formation. The following commands are to be taught and executable by all Army personnel: 1. Open order All men stand in a shoulder-to-shoulder formation. Once the officer says ‘EXTEND TO OPEN ORDER AT # PACES, MARCH’, all men will leave an interval of # paces between each other. Essentially, it’s used to spread out in an orderly fashion. 2. Close order All men will reform the regular shoulder-to-shoulder formation with minimal interval once the officer says ‘FORM AT CLOSE ORDER, MARCH’. 3. Left wheel All men stand in a shoulder-to-shoulder formation (unless told otherwise; section IV, 1). If the officer says ‘LEFT WHEEL, MARCH’, the person at the far left side of the line will turn left. All men will then fall in on his right, making a sort of big turning maneuver. You could compare it to opening a door. 4. Right wheel All men stand in a shoulder-to-shoulder formation (unless told otherwise; section III, 1). If the officer says ‘RIGHT WHEEL, MARCH’, the person at the far right side of the line will turn right. All men will then fall in on his left, making a sort of big turning manoevre. This, naturally, works similairly to executing a left wheel. [NOTE] You only start to turn/move once the officer of the line has said ‘MARCH’, as t##s is the executive order of the given command. 5. Regular March All men stand behind each other in a so-called ‘single file line’ or ‘column’. Once the commanding officer says ‘PREPARE TO MARCH’, all men will prepare to start marching. Only once the commanding officer says ‘MARCH’, all men will start marching. Regular march is executed with ‘Shoulder Arms’ or ‘Support Arms’. 6. Quick March All men stand behind each other in a so-called ‘single file line’ or ‘column’. Once the commanding officer says ‘PREPARE TO QUICK MARCH’, all men will prepare to start marching. Only once the commanding officer says ‘MARCH’, all men will start marching. Quick march is executed using ‘Trail Arms’ (K). ~ ~This Concludes The Stage IV Manual ~~
