"Our attempts to contact the Sovereign Unity have come back...negative. What we know of the Sovereign Unity is broad. Their triumph against the masters lacks rich detail that historians such as myself crave. A nation that clawed itself out of servitude, and now chained those who chained it. It's a romatic story, full of heroes and villains.
Lucky for us. We've discovered a planet called Ymira on the edge of Mass Effect Space. A pocket of galaxy impossible to penetrate by any means of travel. Military force has proved in effective.
Ymira is an ocean planet with little land mass. On one of these land masses was a temple. We had sent an archaeology team protected by an armed escort, to explore and learn about the temple and the secrets it held.
The survivors reported they saw soldiers from the Sovereign Unity touch down hours after they did. The soldiers didn't speak, and outright attacked the scientist. The survivors reported they heard voices in their heads, damning them for desecrating the tomb.
Most would say the expedition was a failure. But I say it was but a single step towards something greater. We've made contact with the Sovereign Unity. Though not on pleasant terms.
One thing spoke out to me about the temple. The people heard the voice mention a name. "Protheus," they said. I believe the temple is much more than a temple. But an overlay that harbors something much valuable, a tomb.
There is much speculation around the origin of Mass Effect Space. The massive uncontrolled energy comes from somewhere. I believe that Protheus, whether alive or dead, will have the answers we seek.
Mass Effect Space can be weaponized. The ability to turn a sector of space into an uncontrolled mass of energy that destroys everything could become the greatest weapon in the galaxy. The Sovereign Unity are either very peaceful, haven't realized what they control, or are waiting for the moment to use it against their enemy. I believe in the third reason.
I do not wish to weaponize this Mass Effect Space technology. I believe such uncontrolled energy can be used as a power source. But in order to use it, we must first learn where it comes from.
That is why I've sent an armed force to secure the temple in the name of science and the betterment of galactic life."
