We all know businesses have to make money, right? That's obvious.
But is Roblox becoming too money hungry to properly support its players?
Recently, it started to become obvious to me just how similar Roblox is becoming to a pay-to-play game, where players are forced to pay money if they wanna properly participate in games. Just look at Roblox's social hierarchy, something which I've experienced firsthand - if you've got default or free clothing, you're basically excluded from the community as a serious player, and now with tickets gone, it's harder than ever to get anything more than the free clothing provided by Roblox as an NBC'er. A while back, while I was still a newbie player, some people outright stopped me from playing games because I didn't have clothes or hats.
You might be saying, "why don't you just pay for robux or BC? Wouldn't that make it easier?"
My response? I can't afford it.
I live with a single mother who works day and night to keep food on the table and keep our bills paid. Outside of that, we can barely afford much else. I'm lucky to live just outside of poverty, but many others don't even have that. We simply cannot afford clothes or hats, thus keeping us just out of reach of the top ranks of this hierarchy, making it difficult to enjoy Roblox.
There's no reason Roblox can't make money different ways, without alienating the players who are unable to buy their way in. I offered the suggestion Roblox starts adding Limiteds that cost money alongside the ones that already cost Robux. Players who like to buy limiteds are pretty much always BC, and already buy Robux very often. It wouldn't be a hinderance to lower players because limiteds are basically impossible to gain hold of without buying Robux.
What do you guys think? Is Roblox becoming a "pay-to-play" game? How else can they make money? What are your own experiences with this elitist attitude towards NBC players? |

It's not P2P because you don't need USD, etc. to play the game.
This subforum is for very uneducated people. |

Its halfway there.
Its not legitimate Pay-To-Play because you don't have to use money to create an account.
Its more like Pay-To-Be-Respected
People don't realize that some families can't afford things, unlike richer families that can give their kids whatever amount of money they want and they can spend it on whatever they want. Some kids are also afraid to ask their parents for ROBUX because they are afraid of them saying no, or getting upset. (That's my problem, I fear the word no.)

^ Thanks for the idea, Be right back, I'll credit you ;) |

@myth That is a perfection description. It's not pay to play, but pay to earn respect and popularity. |
Yes, people calling you poor and a noob totally makes roblox p2p.
i suppose to play roblox and forum but this player keeps kicking my rear. |
^ No it doesn't. It makes it pay to get popular and rich. Technically, you can play without spending a penny. |
Arguments:
You can afford a computer and an Internet connection and you can't afford $5.95.
Spend nothing, get nothing.
Be grateful for what you have. |
My first argument was sarcastic. You could afford $5.95 for Builders Club if you could afford a computer. |
Those are strong arguments, especially the second one. |
its gonna happen
roblox is popular
got a lot of youtubers coming off from roblox |
I can afford my computer because it's pretty much a leftover from when we actually had money. I afford internet connection because it's more and more of a necessity, especially with a lot of my school work being internet-based. Roblox isn't a necessity, therefore we don't place it as a priority - it's a luxury. No, we can't afford $5.95 because we're too busy trying to stay alive. |
Not to mention I never said it was already pay-to-play - it's slowly becoming one. |

@daily
That is sarcasm.
i suppose to play roblox and forum but this player keeps kicking my rear. |

I'm with all of this. Total support. Have you guys ever seen Extra Credit's free-to-play episodes? |
I have, actually. Extra Credit have some really wonderful points when it comes to game design - I have a feeling Roblox could learn a thing or two from them. |
Yea I think roblox is just pay to play game now and it's weird that noobs won't be able to buy clothes no more since the removal of tix |
